NOTE:

This position will be scheduled swing shift (2:30 pm-11:00 pm).


The Role:

Diagnoses, repairs and maintains a variety of fleet vehicles and equipment. Assumes a lead role at assigned center in coordinating the repair and maintenance of all company equipment, following established guidelines and with minimal supervisory direction.


Day to Day:

Inspects and maintains a variety of vehicles and heavy equipment.

Diagnoses and repairs mechanical, electrical, and automotive computer problems.
Identifies problems, estimates material and labor requirements and prepares repair orders.
Orders necessary parts to successfully repair vehicles, heavy equipment, tools, and CNG powered equipment. Monitors and tracks parts and tool inventory at center.
Documents work progress.
Enters/retrieves information using the computer.
Communicates with outside vendors to facilitate needed vehicle and equipment repairs.
Coordinates DOT & DEQ inspections for required vehicles, arranges alternate vehicle for employees if needed and completes necessary reports.
Dispatches and assigns work to employees in lower levels of the job family.
Trains, assists, and provides feedback to less-experienced workers at the direction of supervisor, which may include providing feedback to supervisor on progress of training.
Performs other tasks as required, including those in lower levels as referenced in the CBA, with training as needed.
Wears required Company-issued protective equipment and safety gear.
Operates Company vehicles in compliance with state/local laws and Company policies and procedures.
Acts and communicates in a professional, respectful, and cooperative manner in connection with all activities associated with NW Natural.
Follows supervisory instructions and is flexible and adaptable to changing conditions and expectations.
Maintains punctual, regular, and reliable attendance.
Demonstrates the Company’s core values and complies with all Company policies and procedures.


Come on your first day with:

Four years’ experience as a mechanic working in a dealership, fleet maintenance, or similar environment.

Advanced knowledge of air systems, vehicle 12v to 650v systems, hydraulic systems, and welding practices for non-structural repairs.
Advanced math and reading skills.
Ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer.
Comprehensive knowledge of the Company’s organization, inter-relationships, policies, procedures, processes, and department/work specific requirements.
Ability to interface with employees and customers to answer questions or resolve issues with tact and diplomacy.
Ability to prioritize workload, concentrate on tasks, apply procedures in sequence, make decisions with limited information, and work in a structured team environment.
Ability to perform physically demanding work involving walking, standing, bending, twisting, wrist turning, grasping, lifting, squatting, kneeling, or reaching for 8+ hours.
Ability to hear normal voice at 3 feet; warning signals/horns during field operations.
Near/distant vision for driving and reading information to complete work assignments.
Moderate/severe exposure to uneven surfaces, noise, vibration, high-speed rotating machinery, and odorant inhalation.
Manual dexterity adequate to effectively use basic hand tools including, but not limited to, wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.
Ability to repair, troubleshoot, maintain, modify, and install parts and equipment.
Ability to do precision work requiring visual acuity, fine motor skills, and concentration.
Must be able to lift a maximum of 100 lbs.
Ability to safely operate Company vehicles/equipment and perform inspections and minor maintenance as necessary and in compliance with Company policies and state/local laws.
Valid OR/WA driver’s license, any required certifications and/or endorsements, and satisfactory driving record. Must obtain a valid Oregon/Washington driver's license within 90 days if current valid license is from another state.
Knowledge of driving techniques for various truck/trailer combinations and coupling/decoupling trailers. Previous experience preferred.
Moderate exposure to chemical/gas vapors.
ASE certification preferred.
Must obtain forklift certification within the qualification period.
Must obtain Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class A, within qualification period and maintain DOT certifications.
Ability to use diagnostic programs and tools including but not limited to: Ford IDS, Texa Diesel, Cummins Insight, OTC 5000 Scan Tool.
Must obtain and maintain A/C 1R134, Air Brake, CNG tank inspector and other needed certifications.
Working knowledge of household 110/220v electrical system diagnostic and repair for vehicle generator operations.
Subject to random drug testing.
