Custom Fabricators & Repairs, Inc is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support our structural steel fabrication division. This position offers high-visibility, growth opportunities, and exciting builds.
Custom Fabricators & Repairs, Inc is a well-respected miscellaneous metals & structural steel fabricator who has been in business for over three decades. Quality & service are the core principles of our company and we prioritize excellent relationships with our clients. We are the only AISC certificated structural steel fabricator in Bryan, TX. We provide structural & misc steel, as well misc material sales (steel, aluminum, stainless steel), misc repairs, custom work, and job shop services. We service clients in the commercial retail/residential/office, educational, pharmaceutical, food service, manufacturing industries and more.
The successful candidate will have at least 2 years of experience as an administrative assistant in the construction/fabrication field or at least a college degree in construction science/management. Knowledge of the different types of metals as well as structural steel is a plus. Experience with structural steel projects helpful. Hands-on working knowledge STRUMIS is a definite plus. Must have strong communication skills, analysis and critical thinking skills and the ability to meet deadlines as well as be extremely organized and ability to multitask. This individual must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, focused as well as possess strong leadership qualities. Experience with structural steel projects helpful You will be responsible for assisting the Project Manager and handling of commercial structural steel projects ranging from 20+ tons.
Job Summary: Critical to our Project Management department, the Assistant Project Manager will be responsible to manage all activities associated with the construction of an assigned project under direct supervision of a Project Manager. The Assistant PM will assist the Project Manager with multiple projects from commencement through final completion. The Assistant PM is expected to meet multiple deadlines in a timely, efficient, and effective manner and to assist the Project Manager to stay within a set budget.
Key Performance Objectives (not an all-inclusive list of duties/expectations)
- Ensures that all contractual terms and obligations of such projects are maintained.
- Prepare and maintain AISC documentation (RFI logs, CO logs, Drawing logs...etc) per our QMS and AISC standards, for each project, often, multiple projects and deadlines.
- Assist in monitoring and managing the project schedule throughout the course of the project to ensure the project is completed in compliance with the contract terms.
- Assist in building and maintaining positive relationships with clients based on trust and value through communication, client service, and performance.
- Organize bid documents.
- Assist with estimates.
- Draft request for quotes to vendors
- Work with construction documents and forms
- Complete any task assigned by the project manager.
- Perform misc. administrative duties such as preparing bills of lading, letters of transmittal, emails, purchase orders, etc. or any task assigned by the Project Manager effectively and efficiently.
- Enter job information, purchase orders, etc. into production software – STRUMIS.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to execute each essential duty satisfactorily if not above expectations. - Assist in managing the start-up and execution of all project documents; including but not limited to, budget, bid proposal(s), scope(s) of work, schedule of values, contracts, change orders, RFI’s, submittals, and closeout documents.
- Knowledge and ability to order materials needed off a material list via a purchase order created in our structural software – STRUMIS.
- Assist with maintaining the master set of drawings for each project; ensure project team has the correct and updated set.
- Read and interpret established scope of work, plans, specifications, addenda(s), budget, schedule, and misc. correspondence regarding each project. Ensure complete understanding of all project requirements and assists in the project management.
- Assist with the reviewing and completion of each project’s billing checklist, submit all billing to the Accounting Department prior to each project’s due date.
- Understand and ensure adherence to all specifications, selections, and details during all phases of construction.
- Assist with communication proactively with General Contractors, Trade partners and suppliers to ensure they are meeting schedule requirements and resolve any issues, as necessary.
- Assist with customer changes and make sure they are approved, ensure they are properly documented and communicated to all effected parties.
- Understand and stay up to date on the AISC regulations / requirements and building codes as they relate to connection, design, detailing practices, steel member dimensions and properties.
- Maintain required project documentation (RFI logs, CO logs, Drawing logs...etc.) per our QMS and AISC standards.
- Review and understand the extent of contractual obligations set forth in the specifications to ensure work performed / produced is completed with the contractual scope.
- Create and maintain master schedule for Custom Fabricators & Repairs, inc; including individual project schedules. Provide updates to the Project Manager and team as needed.
- Ability to navigate and use Project Management Software. (i.e. STRUMIS) Ensure all Project Management Software requests are checked and completed on time.
- Maintain AISC logs for drawings, submittals, change orders, and RFI’s. Manage the setup and update all construction documents on the shared drive for employee access.
- Manage the Job Cost Reporting for all projects; update as needed.
- Document and communicate information regarding material back orders, delivery delays, or weather delays to the proper party, and follow up until all tasks are completed.
- Assist in the coordination of weekly meetings with project team to review project schedule.
- Complete documentation to confirm re-work if products need re-work.
- Assist in completion of project closeout.
