The Assistant Chem/RP Manager assists in the direction and management of Chemistry and Radiation Protection activities to ensure Nuclear Asset Protection for the station as well as the radiological health and safety of plant personnel and the public. The position serves as primary delegate for the Chemistry / Radiological Services Director. Major responsibilities include oversight of the Chemistry and Radiation Protection supervisors who are responsible for internal and external dosimetry, radiological instrument calibration, respiratory protection, radwaste shipping, Passport Total Exposure System administration, radiation protection procedure development, records management, FSAR maintenance, effluents monitoring, Work Control planning/scheduling, Chemistry Specialist oversight. Also provides guidance to assigned personnel to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and specifications, and industry guidelines.
May also represent Energy Northwest Chemistry/Radiation Protection during audits, inspections and at professional meetings and conferences.
Serve as the designated Radiation Protection Manager.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Oversee activities of the Chemistry Support Group and Radiological Support group. Act with full authority of the Chemistry / Radiological Services Manager in their absence or periods of unavailability, as directed. Serve as an alternate member of the Plant Operating Committee and other station committees as assigned.
Assist in development of departmental vision, goals and performance expectations to promote continuous improvement in teamwork, quality and productivity. Provide guidance to supervisors in conducting performance evaluations, demonstrating leadership skills and core values. Resolve personnel problems.
Ensure station programs, procedures and activities promote radiological safety and proper chemistry controls. Ensure the program complies with all applicable codes, standards and regulations.
Monitor organizational performance against commitments, regulatory requirements and expectations. Identify problems and recommend and implement actions to ensure continuous improvement through the corrective action program. Monitor performance of training programs to ensure that they effectively maintain skills and improve performance of the two disciplines. Conduct and/or participate in program self-assessments.
Supervise the implementation of the radioactive material and waste shipping program to meet 49CFR 172-173, 10CFR 20, 10CFR 61, and 10CFR 71.
Must participate on the Emergency Response team (ERO) when designated.
Must support the biennial refueling outage with a primary role in Chemistry supervision or Radiation Protection and may include support to the OCC.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
As the designated Radiation Protection Manager, must have some formal radiation protection training, and must have at least five years of professional experience in applied radiation protection. At least three years must be in applied radiation protection work in a nuclear facility with problems similar to a nuclear power station.
Typically, selected candidates are hired between the minimum and midpoint of the range, based on applicable experience and qualifications, market rate, internal equity, and budgetary allowances.
Offers will be negotiated based on each candidate's qualifications.
This role may be eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan. Incentives are earned based on employee performance against defined metrics and company goals.
