The Opportunity
Vermilion has an excellent opportunity for a
Contract Asset Integrity Inspector. This position will report directly to the Team Lead, Asset Integrity in the Canada Business Unit (CBU) and will be based in Calgary. The successful candidate’s mission is to maximize the value of Vermilion’s assets, while providing asset integrity oversight, technical expertise, ensuring regulatory requirements are met and balancing risk and operational priorities. The successful candidate’s main goal will be to maintain and improve the performance of Vermilion Asset Integrity Management Programs and ensure alignment of individual goals to asset integrity team goals and CBU priorities.
What You Will Do
- Assist the Chief Inspector with the implementation and maintenance of Pressure Equipment, Pressure Piping, and Tank Integrity Management programs
- Support internal and external regulatory and shop audits
- Develop pressure equipment and storage tank repair and alteration procedures, as well as Inspection Test Plans (ITPs)
- Actively participate and inspect during facility turnaround and outages
- Ensure compliance with all applicable jurisdictional requirements and Vermilion standards
- Provide technical expertise in corrosion control, root cause failure analysis and incident investigation
- Manage inspection and repair activities related to pressure equipment and tank integrity programs
- Demonstrate HSE Leadership through visible actions – setting direction, proactive reporting, participation in safety meetings, and regular site visits
- Steward Asset Integrity projects and ensure adoption of the Management of Change (MOC) process
- Liaise with jurisdictional authorities regarding regulatory matters.
- This position is based in Calgary and will require travel to Vermilion sites up to 30% of the time.
- Valid API 510 and ABSA In-Service Pressure Equipment Inspector Certifications
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience as an Inservice Inspector preferably with an upstream operating company
- Demonstrated experience in pressure equipment and tank integrity management programs
- Knowledge of Alberta pressure equipment acts, regulations and codes
- Knowledge of ASME B31.3, ASME Section VIII Div.1, Section IX, Section V, and CSA B51
- Familiarity with NDE methods (UT, RT, MT, etc.)
- The following certifications would be considered strong assets:
- API 653 and API 570
- AMPP CP-1 or 2
- AMPP Corrosion Technologist
- Strong operational knowledge of upstream pipeline infrastructure and surface facilities
- Knowledge and experience with safe work practices in oil and gas production
- Highly motivated, and pro-active, with high attention to technical details
- Ability to work collaboratively in large, multi-disciplinary teams
- Professional, team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with acute attention to detail
- Strategic thinker with exemplary analytical and problem solving skills
