JOB SUMMARY:
The Area Manager, Commercial Plumbing Services is a strategic leader and business partner responsible for the executive-level oversight, unification, and profitable growth of our commercial plumbing portfolio. This portfolio includes three distinct subsidiaries: Carboni Plumbing, Roach Plumbing, and Water Systems Specialties.
The primary mission of this role is to drive operational excellence, significant sales growth, and strategic market penetration by getting all three companies to operate cohesively as one unified organization. The Manager will be instrumental in identifying and executing new business opportunities, including potential mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and will act as the crucial link between the commercial entities and the Regional Water Authority (RWA), ensuring all business lines align with RWA's strategic goals and financial targets.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Business Growth
- Business Unification and Goal Alignment: Lead the integration of Carboni, Roach, and WSS into a single, cohesive operational unit, ensuring standard processes, shared best practices, and unified efforts. Consistently meet or exceed target goals set by the RWA.
- New Revenue Opportunities & M&A: Proactively identify, assess, and capture new revenue streams and large-scale commercial opportunities. Drive growth initiatives, including analyzing the market for potential mergers, acquisitions, or strategic partnerships to expand service area and capabilities.
- Financial & Operational Oversight: Provide executive oversight with P&L ownership, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Guide and execute 3-5 year roadmap of growth initiatives and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to achieve budget target. Implement continuous improvement initiatives to optimize operations and profitability by managing resources, supply chain and claims of businesses.
- Sales Strategy & Execution: Develop and implement aggressive sales strategies and initiatives to consistently grow the customer base, increase service volume, and expand the market share of the unified plumbing businesses.
- Marketing Leadership: Direct and guide marketing and advertising efforts to sustain and significantly grow existing customer programs. Ensure brand consistency and effective customer acquisition campaigns across all subsidiaries.
- Relationship Management: Foster and maintain positive executive-level relationships with key clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and RWA stakeholders to ensure high levels of satisfaction, repeat business, and successful contract negotiations.
- Team Leadership: Lead, motivate, and mentor cross-functional leadership teams across all subsidiaries, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and a strong focus on sales and customer satisfaction.
- Operational Compliance: Oversee the day-to-day operations of all assigned business units, ensuring strict compliance with all safety, regulatory, and quality standards, specifically within mechanical construction and service operations.- Education: Vocational or technical school degree, or a related field is preferred. Exceptional, proven work experience in executive leadership and commercial services (15+ years) may be considered in lieu of a degree. A bachelor’s degree, MBA or equivalent advanced degree is a plus.
- Certification: A P2 License (or equivalent Master Plumber/Contractor license) is preferred, but not a requirement.
- Experience: A minimum of 5-10 years of progressive experience in business management or mechanical construction management, preferably in the plumbing, service-based, or utility-related industries.
- Sales & Growth Acumen: Demonstrated track record of successfully growing a customer base and consistently meeting or exceeding sales and profit quotas. Experience in developing and executing high-impact business growth strategies.
- M&A Knowledge: Solid understanding of the business development process, including the ability to assess, pursue, and integrate new business opportunities such as mergers and acquisitions.
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead, unify, and manage diverse, multi-site teams and business units simultaneously toward a common goal.
- Technical & Financial Skills: Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and P&L performance analysis. Solid working knowledge of plumbing and service store operations.
- Additional Skills: Excellent leadership, communication, and complex problem-solving skills. Proficient in project management and sales/CRM software tools.
