Area Engineering Intern (TX)

Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

- Work with the Engineering staff to support the reliability of the electric distribution system

- Work as an entry level engineer doing tasks that support electric reliability, power quality, system protection and plant betterment to improve the electric distribution system.

- Through practical operations experience and mentoring, a successful candidate will gain significant professional confidence and people skills.

This position is for a June 1, 2026 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.

- Must be enrolled in an ABET accredited electrical or mechanical engineering program.

- Able to commute to 790 S. Buchanan Amarillo, TX or 4201 Frankford Lubbock, TX

- Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) and part time during the school semester (up to 20 hours a week)

Preferred Qualifications

- 3.0 GPA (out of a 4.0 scale) or higher sophomore or junior

- Completed 2 years of undergraduate coursework, including classes in mathematics, physics and basic electric circuits

- Experience or Proficiency with Microsoft office suite

Non-Bargaining

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $20.70 to $22.50 per hour

This position is eligible for the following benefits: Pension, 401(k) plan, Paid time off (PTO), Holidays
