About This Job

SUMMARY: Performs skilled (unlicensed) work in the operation of Wastewater Treatment Plant equipment and facilities on an assigned shift (shift work is working eight-hour shifts that will include the following: working on weekends, nights, and holidays). This job description includes all Career Ladder positions such as Process Control Specialist Apprentice, Process Control Specialist I-A, Process Control Specialist I-B and Process Control Specialist II. The pay grades range from 08-12. Salary range: (Grade 8) $18.18 - $27.27 per hour, (Grade 10) $21.21 - $31.81 per hour, (Grade 11) $23.33 - $34.99 per hour, (Grade 12) $25.66 - $38.49 per hour.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Performs skilled work in the operation and maintenance of the Wastewater Treatment Facility as scheduled by the Assistant Superintendent.

- Operates chemical feed systems and assists in the unloading of chemical deliveries.

- Collects operational data for the activated sludge process, primary process, and solids handling.

- May be called upon to work additional shifts other than the scheduled shift.

- Keeps work area neat and clean and assists laborers in keeping the facility in an exceptional manner.

- Assists maintenance crews in isolating equipment for maintenance. Completes tasks by CWW Safety Procedures.

- Monitors treatment facility, wastewater collection system, and CSO facilities using SCADA system.

- Inspects for proper operation: pumps, motors, valves, piping systems, backflow preventers, HVAC systems, air compressors, sludge thickening equipment, chemical feed equipment, odor control systems, sludge handling and moving equipment, and utility and process water systems.

- Safely uses hand tools and power tools to perform maintenance on plant equipment, including but not limited to drill presses, grinders, all hand tools, welders, and cutting torches.

- Learns to operate all plant equipment in all aspects of the treatment process.

- Assists the mechanics in preventive and corrective maintenance activities.

- Participates in staff meetings and assists management in compiling data and information.

- From time to time, may be called upon by a supervisor to perform other duties as deemed necessary by the supervisor.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

- A high school graduate diploma or GED is the minimum requirement, as well as possessing a valid and clean Georgia driver’s license.

- Must Obtain a Class 3 wastewater license within the first year of employment.

- Specialized training in wastewater treatment is preferred.

- One year of experience working in a wastewater treatment facility as an operator or mechanic, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is desired.


LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and keep records. Ability to read blueprints.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to draw and read graphs.


REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply commonsense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

The employee regularly works with and around chemicals, blood-borne pathogens, confined spaces, associated tanks, piping, and chemical feed systems commonly found in the wastewater industry.
