EQUS is seeking an Apprentice Powerline Technician (PLT) to join our team. Apprentice PLTs work to gain recommended experience and knowledge through assigned tasks as outlined in the Apprenticeship Training and Standards Record Book to be successful in the Power Lineperson Trade. Work experience gained is recorded and validated in the in the Apprenticeship Training and Standards Record Book.
- Gain knowledge of current material lists and identification of specific tools and materials
- Continual review and understanding of company distribution standards manual
- Understand and identify with the company’s safety policies and provincial safety regulations outlined in the Electrical and Communication Utility Code
- To learn the process of operating and maintainingall heavy vehicles and equipment
- To learn the use of trade associated hand tool and test equipment
- Inspection and identification of structures for hazards prior to commencement of work
- Inspection and maintenance of climbing equipment prior to each use
- Ascend and descend to/from work position and perform tasks in a comfortable and safe position
- To interpret structure lists, maps, and drawings
- To clean up construction site and remove / dispose of waste and surplus material
- To maintain good public relations during contacts with customers and other persons or groups inside or outside the company
- To maintain a keen sense of personal and group safety at all times and to exercise appropriate caution when working on or in close proximity to energized equipment
- Complete trade school annually to gain certification
- To perform such other related duties as may be assigned
This position reports directly to the Construction Work Leader
- Valid class 5 driver's license with a clean driver's abstract; Must be able to obtain a Class 3 driver’s license with a Q air endorsement
- Responsible to follow EQUS’ Corporate Safety Program and implementation; includes WHMIS, First Aid and CPR Certification
- Ability to communicate with members of team and to be able to easily comprehend and follow instructions; Must work well with others
- Skilled in the use and care of tools, equipment and materials of the trade
- Good health, strong physique and possess good body coordination
- Previous experience in rural power distribution system operations an asset
