We are looking to hire Apprentice Lineman for our York District (1st and 4th Year Apprentices) and Shippensburg District (1st Year Apprentice). Please reference the job descriptions below to see if you qualify!
1st Year Apprentice (York & Shippensburg District)
1. Can and does perform all of the duties of Groundman.
2. Learns correct climbing procedures as shown in the Safety Rules manual and from instruction and experience.
3. Under close supervision works on de-energized conductors, structures, and equipment.
1. On the ground, works in setting and lining up poles, installing hardware, and framing poles.
2. Under close observation from the ground by a qualified Journeyman lineman or Lead Lineman, works on energized poles and structures outside of the minimum approach distance to perform functions such as: hang/change transformers; install/change ocrs, regulators, bypass switches, capacitors and other special equipment; install primary riser assemblies; install/convert secondary services. All energized primary conductors or equipment must be isolated with the proper cover-up material by a qualified Journeyman lineman before the Apprentice 4th year can perform this type of work.
3. Following completion of the four month probationary period, along with a qualified Journeyman lineman either in the same two-person bucket or two bucket trucks in close proximity, works on energized poles and structures within the minimum approach distance to perform such functions as: tying in conductors; making up jumpers; installing/replacing crossarms and related protective equipment such as arrestors, cutouts, air break switches, guy wires; riggings blocks and tack for lifting heavy objects, not to include the moving of conductors, unless in a two-man bucket with a Journeyman.
4. The opportunity to perform the tasks in paragraph 3 and 4 is to familiarize the apprentice with proper hot-line gloving procedures and it is not the intention to have the apprentice in a gloving role on a daily basis.
5. Must know how to do all types of splicing.
6. Takes instructions in rigging and use of hotline equipment on energized poles and structures, including changing out transformers, closing and opening cutouts, breakers, bypass switches, etc.
8. Does work of all job classifications lesser-rated to his/hers.
9. Following completion of the probationary period; when required to work along with helper, will have responsibility of Journeyman 3rd Class, however does not work in any hot line gloving situations.
1. High School diploma required. Lineman schooling preferred or equivalent work experience.
2. Promotions from this job class will require the successful completion of a job specific skills checklist that is mutually agreed upon by the Union and the Cooperative.
3. Must be able to use Microsoft Office Suite and mapping software.
4. Must work effectively, relate well with others, and exhibit a professional manner.
5. Communicates effectivelyboth verbally and in writingwith employees, directors, and public.
6. Must be able to speak clearly and safely, and to a volume that can be understood and heard across distances encountered in the field, such as but not limited to, ground to pole-top, bucket to ground, and pole to pole.
7. Must have valid Pennsylvania driver's license, Class A, with no air brake restriction.
8. Required to be proficient in ability to render first aid, CPR/AED, and rescue breathing on the ground, at the pole top, and on structures.
