Cobb EMC has an exciting opportunity for an Apparatus & Automation Technician
to install, test, maintain, and troubleshoot all apparatus field and substation equipment and electronic devices that support Cobb EMC’s system automation efforts. To install, wire, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair substation breakers, voltage regulators, breaker and voltage regulator control panels, and non-SCADA controlled switchgears. To install control wiring and cabinets, test, perform scheduled maintenance, troubleshoot, and repair automated and automatic switchgears, VFI’s, and PST-9’s. To install control wiring and cabinets, testing, perform scheduled maintenance, troubleshoot, and repair AGOD’s, vacuum sectionalizers and interrupters, Nova switches, and IED’s. To install splicing, and termination of fiber optic cables, both in substations and at field devices, in support of Cobb EMC’s electrical distribution connectivity objectives.

What you will be doing Fiber Technologies
- Assist in the installation, splicing, and termination of fiber optic cables, both in substations and at field locations, in support of Cobb’s substation and field device connectivity objectives.
- Assist in installation, splicing, and termination fiber of optic cables for IED’s, SCADA Network Terminal Units and RTACs.
- Assist in the installation, splicing, and termination of 144/288-count fiber.
- Assist in the installation, splicing, and termination of 48/144/288-count patch panels into substation SCADA cabinets.
- Assist in the installation, splicing, and termination of 12-count into 144-count connections for electrical distribution field switches.
- Assist in the installation, splicing, and termination of multi-mode fiber connections used in electrical distribution systems, including SCADA cabinet to substation breaker connections, SCADA cabinet to substation regulators connections, and SCADA cabinet to MPLS connections.
- Assist in the correct testing of fiber installations using an optical time domain reflectometer (O.T.D.R.).
- Assist in fiber project installations and schedules with internal and external contracted resources.
Apparatus Substation & Field Equipment, Electronic Devices
- Assist in the installation, wiring, testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of substation breakers, voltage regulators, breaker and voltage regulator control panels, SCADA equipment, and other substation devices.
- Assist in the installation of control wiring and cabinets, testing, scheduled maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of field devices such as non-SCADA PMH-9/10/13 switchgears, non-SCADA (automatic) switchgears, PST-9 switchgears, and VFI pad mounted switchgears.
- Assist in the wiring of SCADA, backup power supplies, and control schemes on new power substations and circuit additions.
- Assist in the servicing, testing, and calibration of load and voltage monitoring equipment, including relays, transducers, transmitters, receivers, remote meter equipment, and regulator control panels.
- Assist in the operation of test equipment for all devices.
- Assist in the bypassing, servicing, testing, programming, and operating substation and field apparatus as well as various line sectionalizing equipment.
- Assist in the installation of control wiring and cabinets, testing, scheduled maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of automated and automatic switchgears, vacuum sectionalizers and interrupters, AGOD’s, PMH-9/10/13 switchgears, Nova switches, VIPER (AER’s), and IED’s.
- Assist in the servicing, testing, and troubleshooting of remote SCADA installations.
- Assist in the troubleshooting and repair of capacitor bank remote disconnect controls.
- Assist in the troubleshooting and repair of communication systems (220MHz, 900MHz and Spread Spectrum installations).
- Assist in the programming, testing, and troubleshooting of Versa Tech and Trip Saver reclosers.
- Assist in the installation, maintenance, repair, splicing, and testing of fiber optics systems.
- Assist in the troubleshooting and repair of capacitor bank remote disconnect controls.
- Assist team in processing transformers, reclosers, breakers, and other devices for shipment, either for maintenance, sale, or decommissioning.
- Assist team in managing, properly storing, documenting, and preparing for shipment PCB contaminated transformers and non-hazardous oil-contaminated media per EPA guidelines.
- Assist team in coordinating cross-training activities.
- Assist team in researching future distribution devices.
- Assist team with member facing education and community projects e.g. science, technology, engineering, and mathematics events (STEM).
- Assist Manager of Apparatus with yearly budget preparation and careful monitoring of expenses.
Minimum Requirements
Vocational/Technicalschool diploma in electronics, electrical engineering technology, fiber technologies, or related field; or a combination of relevant education & equivalent work experience.
Minimum
one (1) year of experience with the installation, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electric utility apparatus field and substation equipment (e.g. breakers and regulators), electronic devices, or fiber technologies.
Required Skills
- Possess valid Georgia driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain a Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card within one year of hire date.
- Ability to obtain an Integrated Transmission System (ITS) 1-Day Entry Only Certification within one year of hire date.
- Ability to reason analytically and apply theoretical concepts to actual needs.
