About the Role:
The AI Governance Lead we be responsible for establishing and maintaining a robust governance framework for AI technologies across Alcoa. This role ensures that AI initiatives align with ethical standards, regulatory requirements, and the company's strategic objectives. The AI Governance Lead will report into and collaborate across Alcoa’s Information Technology and Automation Solutions (ITAS) organization. They will also collaborate directly with other parts of Alcoa, including but not limited to Ethics & Compliance, Data Privacy, Legal, Procurement, and Audit teams and key business stakeholders leveraging AI technologies.
What you can bring to this role:
•Develop and implement AI governance frameworks, policies, standards, and procedures.
•Collaborate with Ethics & Compliance and Data Privacy teams to ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
•Establish guidelines for ethical AI use, including data privacy and security, in collaboration with those teams.
•Lead Alcoa’s AI Steering Committee and manage the supporting structure of governance including any sub-committees or working groups reporting to the Steering Committee.
•Lead delivery and management of an AI Intake and Inventory process, including the toolset to support this process.
•Identify and assess risks associated with AI systems.
•Develop risk mitigation strategies and monitor their effectiveness.
•Collaborate with ITAS Risk and Compliance team to document and track AI risks.
•Collaborate with Internal Audit to support the auditing process for AI technologies.
•Mitigate risks such as shadow AI (unauthorized use of AI tolls by employees) and non-public information (NPI) protection by establishing close partnership with cybersecurity and ensuring standards / policies are followed.
•Collaborate across Alcoa’s Information Technology and Automation Solutions (ITAS) teams, as well as other parts of Alcoa, including but not limited to Ethics & Compliance, Data Privacy, Legal, Procurement, and Audit teams and key business stakeholders leveraging AI capabilities.
•Support the Operations Insight Team to deliver AI solutions for Alcoa’s global operations, by providing efficient processes to ensure AI governance and risk management requirements are achieved
•Communicate AI governance policies and practices to stakeholders at all levels.
•Support leadership level communications and alignment on AI as needed (meetings, workshops, etc.).
•Provide training and awareness programs on AI governance, ethics and risks.
•Implement monitoring mechanisms to track AI governance adherence
•Generate reports on AI governance metrics and present findings to leadership.
•Foster a culture of continuous improvement in AI governance.
•Stay updated on emerging trends and developments in AI governance and incorporate them into Alcoa’s AI strategy and practices.
•Support and guide the AI adoption
•Understand how AI can be implemented effectively in a medium-sized manufacturing company
•Gain comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of AI adoption, enabling effective support in executing the roadmap.
•Monitor market changes and AI dynamics to guide how Alcoa should adapt to those changes in our strategy
•Discuss AI lessons learned and help guide future developments
•Help platform and portfolio leaders to demonstrate the return on investment of AI initiatives
•Partner with the Value Management Office (VMO) to provide holistic visibility on where we are with AI initiatives across portfolios and platforms, confirming that Alcoa is driving value through AI innovation
What you can bring to this role:
•Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field.
•Certifications in AI, data privacy, or governance (e.g., CIPP, CIPM) are a plus.
•3 – 5 years of experience in AI governance, risk management, or a related field.
•Strong understanding of AI technologies, data privacy laws, and ethical considerations.
•Experience working in a cross-functional environment and leading governance initiatives.
•Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
•Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
•Self-starter who can work independently and with a team.
•Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
•Proficiency in AI and data governance tools and technologies.
•Ethical mindset with a strong commitment to responsible AI use.
•Detail-oriented and proactive in identifying and addressing governance issues.
•Collaborative and able to work effectively with diverse teams.
