Summary of Position:
The I&E Engineer is responsible for the design, installation, maintenance, and optimization of instrumentation and electrical systems that support oil and gas production operations. This role ensures that all I&E systems function safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory standards. The engineer will collaborate with field operations, project engineers, automation specialists, and third-party contractors to support both brownfield modifications and new capital projects.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
•Design and oversee the implementation of instrumentation, controls, and electrical systems for oil & gas facilities, including well sites, compression stations, tank batteries, and processing plants.
•Lead the development and management of overhead electrical and primary power infrastructure, including power system studies, transformation, pole-line design, load calculations, and utility coordination.
•Develop, configure, and troubleshoot control system programming (PLC, SCADA, RTU) to support production optimization and operational reliability.
•Support the selection, specification, and integration of field instruments, control systems, MCCs, VFDs, and power distribution equipment.
•Develop and review detailed engineering documentation, including P&IDs, cause and effect diagrams, control narratives, loop drawings, wiring diagrams, one-line diagrams, panel layouts, and PLC logic.
•Conduct field inspections to validate that I&E and primary power systems are installed per design specifications, functional requirements, and safety codes.
•Collaborate with Project Managers and Field Technicians to maintain and optimize facility control systems, communications, and power delivery networks.
•Ensure compliance with NEC, IEEE, NESC, API, ISA, and other applicable standards, including hazardous area classifications and electrical safety regulations.
•Provide technical leadership for power reliability improvement initiatives, including voltage drop mitigation, fault current analysis, and protective device coordination.
•Assist in developing scopes of work, budgets, schedules, and contractor oversight for I&E and power-related projects.
•Support facility commissioning, functional testing, and startup activities for electrical and control systems.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
•Strong knowledge of field instrumentation, motor control systems, control panel design, and low to medium voltage power distribution.
•Working experience with overhead electrical distribution systems and primary power utility coordination.
•Proficiency in PLC and SCADA programming (Allen-Bradley, Schneider, Siemens, etc.).
•Ability to read and develop electrical schematics, P&IDs, loop diagrams, and control logic diagrams.
•Familiarity with NEC, NESC, NFPA 70E, API 500/505, and hazardous area electrical classification.
•Skilled in troubleshooting electrical and control systems in field environments.
•Excellent communication, cross-functional collaboration, and project management abilities.
Education & Experience:
•Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or related discipline.
•Minimum of 15 years of experience in control systems, electrical, and engineering in the oil and gas industry.
Travel & Additional Requirements:
•Work Location: Work is performed at both field and office locations.
•Schedule: Traditional 40-hour workweek or an alternative schedule of 9-hour workdays Monday through Thursday and 4-hour workdays on Friday, as business needs allow and with manager approval.
•Travel required to the Civitas field locations.

Base Pay Range: $205,000 - $230,000
