Job Summary
The Compensation Advisor will participate in the design, development, implementation, and administering of the compensation programs that attract, retain, and motivate top talent while ensuring internal equity and external competitiveness. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of compensation practices in the oil and gas industry and be comfortable working in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment. They will report to the Manager, Human Resources.
The Compensation Advisor will work in our Houston Corporate office and may work two (2) days a week remote.
Responsibilities
- Support the design, analysis, and administration of base salary structures, incentive programs, and other compensation initiatives
- Participate in job evaluations, job leveling, and titling to ensure consistency across the organization
- Prepare compensation proposal for external hires, internal promotions
- Provide ongoing consultation and subject-matter expertise to HR Business Partners, including compensation-related policies, programs, practices and administration
- Conduct global market benchmarking and salary surveys, including analysis, reporting and program recommendations
- Lead the company-wide annual compensation review including the development of the compensation review planning calendar, training and communication materials
- Prepare compensation analytics, reports, and presentations for senior leadership
- Represent Murphy at industry peer groups and continually monitor external competitive practices, policy changes, and benchmarks through independent research and networking with peers
- Lead specific compensation projects and initiatives as required. These will vary in size, scope and duration and may be individual or team based
- Develop communication materials to enhance awareness and understanding of compensation initiatives with HR Business Partners and line leaders
- Bachelors degree in Commerce, Business, Human Resources, or another related field
- Minimum 19 years’ experience in HR with minimum 10 years’ experience in direct compensation
- Background in interpretation and statistical analysis of data
- Highly skilled with Excel (e.g., working knowledge: XLOOKUP’s, nested functions, pivot tables charts/ graphs, etc.) and other MS Office programs and adept at data clean up
- Experience with benchmarking, compensation cycles, job codes and classifications
- Experience with salary survey participation including data audits, validation, benchmarking and recommending additional compensation data sources
- Experience with SuccessFactors and SAP preferred
- Experience in the upstream oil and gas industry preferred
The individual is required to follow all applicable safety precautions. Work is performed almost entirely in a controlled (i.e., inside) environment and does not typically subject the incumbent to any hazardous/extreme elements; some positions may require regularly moving or transporting items weighing up to 25 lbs. around the office for various needs. The successful candidate must be able to complete all essential physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
