DUTIES: Under direct, but not constant supervision, and working on a rotating or straight shift as may be required, to inspect, repair, maintain, and modify plant equipment and to perform other work as may be required such as, but not limited to, the following: 1. Conduct special and routine surveillance tests on plant equipment to establish its condition or potential for deterioration which may impact plant or equipment performance or reliability. 2. Work independently using drawings, sketches, or written or verbal instructions in executing specific work requests. 3. Check to insure that equipment to be worked on has been properly isolated and protected. Take steps to insure that proper safety devices are in use and understood before work starts. 4. Erect scaffolds and rigging for plant activities. 5. Operate pipe and bolt threading machines, power saws, drill presses, hydraulic presses, grinders, and other general shop equipment. 6. When properly qualified, perform skilled machinists work operating such equipment as lathes, milling machines, and procession grinders. 7. Operate acetylene or other heating torches or gas or electrical welding equipment as needed for heating of equipment or areas or performing minor welding, soldering, or brazing operations as required for their assigned work. 8. When properly qualified, perform certified welding in accordance with prescribed procedures. 9. When properly qualified, perform skilled pipefitting work in accordance with prescribed procedures. 10. Work on a general range of nuclear power plant piping and tubing repair, cutting, threading, bending, fitting and installation, including valves and heat exchangers. 11. Communicate verbally or in writing with authorized inspectors or other representatives of plant management of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission or any plant activities with which he has been involved. 12. Follow the Workman’s Protection Assurance program and the use of Radiation Work Permits. 13. To assist on other jobs as required and perform incidental or less skilled work as required, including sweeping/cleaning shop area. 14. Properly drive a motor vehicle when directed or when required to perform his duties. 15. On an as needed basis to serve in any other plant activities for which he is trained.

SPECIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Journeymen will direct on-the-job training of Apprentices. Journeymen and Apprentices will participate in ongoing training, including successful completion of TPEs. To develop and maintain complete understanding of all facets of the plant emergency program and plant security system. To react as appropriate in the protection of the public in case of an operational emergency. To serve as an active participant in these programs.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR JOURNEYMAN: An applicant for the Journeyman Program shall: 1. Be at least 18 years of age at time of application. 2. Have graduated from high school or passed a recognized high school equivalency examination. 3. Pass the physical which is required for that craft, including medical exam. 4. Employees receiving a disciplinary suspension within 12 months prior to the (common) acceptance date of the apprentice position(s) may be disqualified as a bidder at the discretion of the company. 5. Have demonstrated interest and pride in craftsmanship. 6. Possess ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. 7. Pass the requirement for access at the Callaway Plant. 8. Pass the appropriate test for entry into the line of promotion or job. 9. Possess the required education or experience for entry into the line of promotion at the apprentice level, as follows: a. Three years of experience doing comparable work OR Previously certified to perform ASME code welds involving tube or pipe OR Pass the appropriate competency exam. Candidates must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. TERMS OF PROMOTION: 1. All employees will enter the line of promotion as Apprentice Level 1. 2. Employees shall advance to Apprentice Level 2 after successfully completing Phase 1 of the Task Performance Evaluations (TPEs) required of the Certified Welding Technician classification at the time of entry into the Apprentice Level 1or after one year (excluding time absent), whichever occurs first. 3. Employees shall advance to Journeyman after successfully completing Phase 2 of the TPEs required for the Certified Welding Technician classification at the time of entry into the Apprentice Level 2 or after two years (excluding time absent), whichever comes first.

Hourly Pay:

Grade Step OA 073 Step 1 of 1 (Top Step) - 48.67 USD
