Welder/Mechanic

Use your hands to make a living! I am looking for a welder who knows his way around tools.

You day would be split between mechanical repairs and fabricating new equipment in our welding shop.

Can't stand the idea of sitting at a desk or doing repetitive office work? Make your money a better way! I need a capable and willing welder/mechanic to join the maintenance team here at Whittemore. You will be working with bearings, conveyors, furnaces, motors, forklifts, and more. Welding experience is a must! You will join the maintenance team as the lead welder and be in charge of the welding side of the shop. You will be a critical member of the team from day one!

This is an opportunity for long-term employment, you will become a member of the maintenance team and an expert in our facility. You will not be another number at a big company, we are small, family owned company local to Lawrence. If you're interested take a look at the sample of responsibilities below. Some responsibilities include:

Fabricating new pieces from c channel, sheet metal, angle iron, flat stock, etc.

Repairing machinery during breakdowns

Monitoring the welding shop supplies and organization

Provide input and guidance when planning projects and building new pieces.

Whittemore Company’s roots have been traced back to 1919. Located in Roslindale, Massachusetts the company was originally established to distribute feed, grain and coal. In 1949 Whittemore started expanding perlite, operating the third known perlite furnace in the United States. In 1973 the Sheehy family purchased Whittemore Company and moved it from Roslindale to Andover, Massachusetts. The company remained at this location until 1985 when it was relocated to its present site in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Expansion processing of vermiculite was added in 1993, as well as a blending production line for custom products. Today the company manufacturers a wide range of standard and customized products that are used in variety of market applications in the horticultural, construction and industrial sectors.

Pay: $28.00 - $38.00 per hour
