ROLE:The Welder is responsible for planning, welding, installing, and repairing all steel fabrications in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse various types of steel using processes such shielded metal arc (SMAW) and flux-cored arc welding (FCAW or FCA).
•Operate manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment.
•Operate metal shaping machines such as brakes, shears and other metal straightening and bending machines.
•Use appropriate hand and power tools to properly measure, cut, assemble, weld and install all types of pipe.
•Use grinder to smooth out, weld, or grind parts prior to welding.
•Repair improperly welded sections of pipe.
•Position and clamp work pieces together or assemble them in a jig fixture.
•Read and interpret blueprints or welding process specifications.
•Inspect subordinate’s work for compliance with the contract plans and specifications, point out deficiencies and explain, and take any corrective action needed.
Note: In addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the company.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications:
•Interprovincial Red Seal or Journeyman Welding ticket from a recognized provincial training authority.
•Valid B-pressure certification for pipelines.
•Valid CWB certification for structural steel is considered an asset.
•Various safety tickets/certificates as required depending on project.
•Must be able to pass a weld test.
Experience:
•Minimum 3 years as a welder in the pipeline construction industry.
Skills and Knowledge:
•Knowledge of pipeline construction welding techniques.
•Knowledge of metals, relevant product codes, regulations and laws.
•Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
•Ability to concentrate on detailed work for long periods.
•Good vision and hand-eye coordination.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position is field based and often works within remote project locations. Travel and/or living in temporary accommodations is required. Must be able to work a 14-days on, 7-days off, 12-hour day rotation for the duration of project.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
The Welder reports to the Welding Foreperson and Superintendent of the project. The position supervises Welder’s Helpers.
