Summary: To set up and operate welding tools to process metal work pieces according to project specifications, blueprints and tooling instructions.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities includes the following:
1. Operates welding equipment (welding components, fillers, deburring machines, grinders, robot) to produce products in accordance with production specifications and needs.
2. Determine appropriate welding equipment and method based on requirements.
3. Reads blueprints and job orders to obtain product specifications (dimensions and tolerances) and tooling instructions (fixtures, feed rates, etc).
4. MIG and TIG weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, overhead).
5. Observes operation and verifies conformance of work pieces to specifications using measuring instruments.
6. Positions and secures work pieces to holding devices, machine tables, chucks, centers or fixtures using clamps and wrenches.
7. Performs change overs to weld steel or aluminum.
8. Visually inspects all welds to ensure conformance to specifications.
9. Operates production equipment to produce products in accordance with production standards as needed.
10. Adheres to established policies and procedures paying special attention to safety regulations.
11. Maintains work areas in a clean, orderly and safe manner to include returning tools to designated areas daily.
12. Notifies supervisor of product discrepancies, equipment malfunctions and/or personal injuries.
Skilled in both mechanical and manual welding practices
May be required to stand for long periods of time
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
May also in engage in frequent and repetitive bending, lifting, stooping, squatting, pushing and pulling of parts and part containers
