A growing mid-sized engineering and design firm with a strong presence across the Southeast and South-Central U.S. is seeking a seasoned leader to launch and build its Water & Wastewater practice. This is a rare opportunity to step into a pivotal role and drive the growth of a new service line within a well-established regional player.
In this high-impact position, you’ll shape strategy, assemble and mentor a team, and lead the delivery of innovative infrastructure solutions for both public and private sector clients. Key responsibilities for this role will include (but are not limited to):
•Establish and lead a new water and wastewater services group, including defining service offerings and strategic direction.
•Oversee the full lifecycle of water and wastewater projects—from planning and design to permitting and construction support—ensuring high quality and client satisfaction.
•Recruit, mentor, and manage a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technical staff.
•Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, and resource allocation to meet performance goals.
•Lead client engagement and business development efforts, including identifying new opportunities, writing proposals, and presenting to prospective clients.
•Collaborate with internal teams to cross-sell services and support integrated project delivery.
•Define and execute a long-term growth strategy for the practice across multiple office locations.
•Represent the firm in industry organizations, events, and conferences to build visibility and credibility in the market.
Required and desired skillsets, experience, and qualifications for this role:
•Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field.
•A Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
•At least 10 years of experience in water and wastewater engineering.
•Proven experience leading projects and managing teams.
•Strong technical knowledge of water and wastewater system design.
•Experience growing a practice or business area is a plus.
•Good at building and maintaining client relationships.
•Strong communication and leadership skills.
•Experience working in consulting engineering firms is preferred.
•Ability to utilize Excel spreadsheets, create Excel trackers, and be able to use Word and PowerPoint for reporting/presentations via Teams or in person.
