Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Water and Wastewater Maintenance Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and inspection of water and wastewater systems and equipment. This role is vital to ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of municipal or industrial water treatment and distribution systems.
At Water Systems, Inc. no two days are ever alike, but a typical workday will most likely include the following tasks and responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities:
•Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on water and wastewater treatment systems, lift stations, pumps, valves, meters, and other related equipment.
•Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, and control system components.
•Conduct routine testing and monitoring of water/wastewater system performance and report abnormalities.
•Respond to emergency calls and assist in troubleshooting system failures, leaks, and overflows.
•Operate and maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment used in the maintenance of utility systems.
•Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, service logs, and compliance documentation.
•Follow all safety regulations and company policies in performing job duties.
•Assist with installation and replacement of water and sewer lines and associated infrastructure.
•Support compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations.

Required Skills/Abilities
•Minimum [1–3] years of experience in water or wastewater maintenance or related fields.
•Valid driver’s license required; CDL+ tanker endorsement or willingness to obtain.
•Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, including pumps, valves, SCADA, PLCs, and piping.
•Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
•Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
•Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varying environmental conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
•State certification in water and/or wastewater operations.
•Confined space and OSHA safety training.
•Experience with utility mapping, GIS, or CMMS software.
Working Conditions (Environmental):
EXTREME COLD: Must be able to withstand temperatures as low as 20 degrees for up to an hour at one time.
EXTREME HEAT: Must be able to withstand extremely high temperatures for up to four hours at a time.
WORKING OUTDOORS: Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions, day or night.
CONFINE SPACES: Works in confined spaces.
ODORS/CHEMICALS: Some exposure to mechanical, electrical, explosive, fume, odor, dust chemical, and toxic waste hazards, using proper safety precautions.
SAFETY: Uses good judgement to work safely and use equipment property.
ON-CALL/24 HR EMERGENCY CALLS: On-call rotation will be required, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Education and Required Experience/Licenses:
•High school diploma or GED required; technical training or certification in water/wastewater systems preferred.
Physical Requirements
•Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds frequently and occasionally up to 100 pounds with assistance.
•Ability to stand, walk, bend, crouch, kneel, climb, and reach for extended periods.
•Must be able to work in confined spaces, elevated areas, and around hazardous environments.
•Use of hands and fingers to handle tools and operate machinery and equipment.
•Visual acuity to read gauges, instruments, and detailed reports or plans.
•Auditory ability to hear alarms, instructions, and communication in noisy environments.
•Capable of performing tasks in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
•Ability to wear and work in personal protective equipment (PPE) such as respirators, gloves, safety harnesses, and protective clothing.
•Stamina to perform manual labor, including digging, pipe installation, and equipment operation, throughout a standard work shift
•Physically capable of climbing ladders, entering manholes, and working in uneven or slippery terrain.
Conditions of Employment:
Must pass a pre-employment background check, drug screen and/or physical exam. Employees are subject to random drug/alcohol testing throughout their employment. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record. A valid South Carolina drivers license is required.
