.Job Summary
We are seeking a qualified and safety-focused Water and Wastewater Maintenance CDL Driver with a Tanker Endorsement to support the operation, maintenance, and transportation needs of water and wastewater utility systems. This position is responsible for operating heavy trucks and vacuum/tanker vehicles, assisting in maintenance and repair tasks, and ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
At Water Systems, Inc. no two days are ever alike, but a typical workday will most likely include the following tasks and responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities:
•Operate Class B (or higher) CDL vehicles, including vacuum trucks, tanker trucks, and utility service vehicles to transport water, wastewater, sludge, and other materials.
•Support the cleaning, maintenance, and inspection of sewer lines, lift stations, storm drains, and related infrastructure.
•Assist field crews with tasks such as jetting, flushing, excavation, pipe repair, valve operation, and system flushing.
•Safely load and unload materials, follow spill prevention procedures, and comply with all DOT, EPA, and OSHA regulations.
•Perform daily inspections and basic maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment.
•Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, maintenance performed, and loads transported.
•Respond to after-hours emergencies as part of an on-call rotation.
•Perform work in confined spaces and elevated areas, using proper PPE and safety protocols.

Required Skills/Abilities
•Valid CDL Class B (or A) license with Tanker Endorsement; clean driving record.
•1–3 years of experience in water/wastewater maintenance, utility work, or commercial driving.
•Ability to operate vacuum trucks, jetting equipment, and related tools.
•Basic mechanical and plumbing knowledge.
•Must be able to pass a DOT physical, drug screening, and background check.
Preferred Qualifications
•Confined space entry certification and OSHA 10/30 certification.
•Experience with CMMS, SCADA, or GIS systems.
•Knowledge of local, state, and federal water/wastewater regulations.
Working Conditions (Environmental):
EXTREME COLD: Must be able to withstand temperatures as low as 20 degrees for up to an hour at one time.
EXTREME HEAT: Must be able to withstand extremely high temperatures for up to four hours at a time.
WORKING OUTDOORS: Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions, day or night.
CONFINE SPACES: Works in confined spaces.
ODORS/CHEMICALS: Some exposure to mechanical, electrical, explosive, fume, odor, dust chemical, and toxic waste hazards, using proper safety precautions.
SAFETY: Uses good judgement to work safely and use equipment property.
ON-CALL/24 HR EMERGENCY CALLS: On-call rotation will be required, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Education and Required Experience/Licenses:
•High school diploma or GED required; technical training or certification in water/wastewater systems preferred.
Physical Requirements
•Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds frequently and occasionally up to 100 pounds with assistance.
•Ability to stand, walk, bend, crouch, kneel, climb, and reach for extended periods.
•Must be able to work in confined spaces, elevated areas, and around hazardous environments.
•Use of hands and fingers to handle tools and operate machinery and equipment.
•Visual acuity to read gauges, instruments, and detailed reports or plans.
•Auditory ability to hear alarms, instructions, and communication in noisy environments.
•Capable of performing tasks in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
•Ability to wear and work in personal protective equipment (PPE) such as respirators, gloves, safety harnesses, and protective clothing.
•Stamina to perform manual labor, including digging, pipe installation, and equipment operation, throughout a standard work shift
•Physically capable of climbing ladders, entering manholes, and working in uneven or slippery terrain.
Conditions of Employment:
Must pass a pre-employment background check, drug screen and/or physical exam. Employees are subject to random drug/alcohol testing throughout their employment. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record. A valid South Carolina drivers license is required.
