EPCOR’s Commercial Services group is hiring a WaterDistribution & Wastewater Collection Operator [Full-Time Permanent] to join the Commercial Operations teamworking out of the Strathmore Wastewater Treatment Plant location. As a Water Distribution & Wastewater Collection Operator, you will report to the Site Manager and are accountable for the daily operations of the water and wastewater distribution, and collection (D&C) systems and laboratory testing while meeting all internal and external reporting requirements and quality standards. Additionally, you will perform assigned duties in compliance with the International Standard Organization (ISO) 14001 certified Environmental Management System that has been implemented at the Strathmore site.
What you’d be responsible for
•Maintaining, inspecting, and repairing water distribution and wastewater collection facilities and infrastructures.
•Servicing of infrastructure in wastewater collection systems, water distribution systems, storm water systems, and water and wastewater plant operations activities (i.e. water quality sampling, process monitoring, evaluation and control, residuals management, equipment isolation and shutdowns, cleaning, and QC/QA testing).
•Collecting samples and conducting lab analysis, meeting internal quality assurance /control (QA/QC) standards.
•Developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), completing daily work permits and safe work plans, and maintaining all required records such as operating and maintenance logs, chemical inventories, and repairing part inventories.
•Gathering and analyzing data for monthly regulatory and operational reporting.
•Upholding EPCOR Health Safety & Environment (HS&E) policy, ethics and compliance standards while ensuring EPCOR’s plant operations and processes are in compliance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 safety and environment quality standards.
•Proactively anticipating and resolving potential process issues through the download and analysis of information from our SCADA system and lab data as well as completing data entry in LIMS and Microsoft applications (Hach WIMS, Word, Excel, etc.)
•Troubleshooting day-to-day operational issues to develop effective solutions and responding to customer inquiries and emergencies such as service interruptions and leaks with tact and professionalism.
•Managing external contractors; participating in internal and external compliance audits.
What’s required to be successful
•Grade 12 diploma or equivalent is required.
+ Water and Wastewater Technician Certificate/Diploma from a recognized educational institution will be considered an asset.
•2+ years of directly related experience in the water and/or wastewater field.
+ Relevant work experience at a Level II or higher certified facility is preferred.
•Minimum of Level I certification in Water Distribution or Wastewater Collection is required.
+ Individuals possessing less than this level of certification may be considered at a non-certified level.
•Strong working knowledge of Canadian health, safety, and environment (HS&E) regulations and International Standards Organization (ISO) 9001 and 14001 standards.
•Must have a valid Alberta Class 5 Motor Vehicle Operator's License

A clean driving record. with 6 or fewer demerits.

Ability to qualify for and maintain a valid EPCOR driver's permit.
+
A 5-year Commercial Drivers Abstract may be required at the time of hire.

We are not accepting drivers with a GDL license.
•Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing will be required.
•Ability to meet the physical demands and activities inherent to the work performed, as well as to function effectively outside under a variety of weather conditions and through all seasons.
+ Please note that due to the nature of this position you will be required on occasion to wear a ½ mask respirator.
•Since you will be on call, you are required to be located within 30 minutes’ commute to our Strathmore Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) within 6 months of hire for on call.

•Ability to demonstrate a strong drive for results; can collaborate, work with a diverse team of operators.
+ Demonstrable experience leading other operators will be considered an asset.
•The following would be considered an asset:
+ Demonstrable proficiency in using Microsoft applications (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and data visualization tools such as Power BI.
+ Adept at using asset management software like IVARA, control systems such as SCADA, and specialized software management systems like HACH Water Information Management System (WIMS).

Hours of work: 8 hours a day; 40 hours weekly
•Overtime, weekend, and shift work may be required.
•Must also participate in the on-call rotation system (30-minute response time required).
