Minimum commitment: 40-hours or 10 volunteer opportunities during the program year


Your Opportunity

We are looking for dedicated individuals interested in participating in an ongoing volunteer program at Conservation Halton. Volunteer Core members contribute a minimum of 40 hours or participate in 10 opportunities throughout the program year.

The Volunteer Core supports several working groups within Conservation Halton including parks, stewardship, education, outreach and restoration throughout the year. Opportunities vary in responsibility, physical demands and activity types, with examples provided below:

Support community, school, and corporate volunteer workdays, community clean ups and tree plantings
Provide support at community outreach events, including set up and take down of event materials and representing Conservation Halton in a professional manner
Support Conservation Halton stewardship and restoration staff with preparation and implementation of ecosystem rehabilitation plans; for example, plantings, in-stream work & low impact development (LID) projects
Support the animal care team by cleaning pens, stalls and enclosures at Mountsberg

Training will be provided based on the opportunity. Most opportunities run on weekdays during regular working hours, with some availability on weekends and evenings.


Your Qualifications

Must be 18 years of age or older
Ability to commit to a minimum of 40-hours or 10 opportunities throughout the program year
A keen interest in the outdoors or environmental conservation
Experience in an environmental field is an asset, but not required
Ability to work outdoors in a variety of conditions (including challenging/uneven terrain) and to adapt to the daily challenges associated with fieldwork (insects, weather, limited access to formal restrooms, etc.)
Ability to travel to various sites not serviced by public transportation
Weekday and daytime availability an asset
Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment
Basic computer skills (knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Excel)
Successful candidate will be required to provide a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSS) to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted (if over 18 years old) Only required for select opportunities

Work in accordance with the Conservation Halton’s Safety Policies & Procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all other related manuals
