This full-time position reports to the Fleet Services Manager and is located at the Ed Fischer Operations Center, 8600 NE 117th Avenue, Vancouver, WA 98662.
This position is intended to be held for six months or less. A Certificate in Diesel Proficiency or equivalent is required. During these six months the employee will be learning the operation of tools, safety practices, basic mechanical concepts and terminology, and complete necessary requirements prescribed by the apprenticeship committee. The trainee will be evaluated throughout the training period to determine if they are meeting the pre-determined goals and objectives. At the end of the training period the employee will be tested to insure they have obtained the knowledge needed to become a Utility Mechanic Apprentice. After successfully completing the trainee period the employee will become an indentured Apprentice. The District is not required to provide another position for incumbents who fail to become Apprentices.
Upon completion of the indentured apprenticeship the successful candidate will advance to Journeyman Utility Mechanic - Swing on the 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. shift crew.
All applicants shall have a High School Degree or equivalent and be able to meet the requirements of the trade for which they apply. Must have the ability to read, write legibly, and converse in the English language. Must have and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License. Must meet utility medical standards for this occupation.
Employees and dependents are eligible for medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance and disability insurance. Employees are enrolled in Washington State PERS and may enroll in deferred compensation plans. Employees will also receive eight hours of vacation leave and sick leave every month and twelve paid holidays throughout the calendar year.
Salary ranges are market based and established annually. With full competency in the role and satisfactory performance, the target salary is midpoint within the established range.
