The Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) has an opening for a Utility Line Clearance Trimmer Leaderin Lansing, MI, as part of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, AFL-CIO, Local Union 352.

Position Summary
•In addition to performing Utility Line Trimmer functions as outlined below, the Leader will be responsible for insuring that all proper work procedures are followed; that all work is performed according to established safety standards; that all BWL polices are adhered to; that customers are properly communicated with; that paperwork is properly filled out; and that any unusual incidents are reported to supervision or management.
Essential Functions
•Responsible for the aerial trimming or removal of trees, care and use of all tools and equipment used on the job, and job safety.
•Drives and operates an aerial lift bucket truck and also operates a brush chipper.
•Must be willing and able to work standby rotation as required.
•Follows BWL safety manual and wears required personal protective equipment as required.
•Attends training and safety awareness and/or skills improvement as required by the BWL supervision, BWL management, or government agency such as MIOSHA.
•Performs other duties as necessitated by job responsibilities.
Job Specifications
•High school diploma or equivalent.
•Two years minimum working as a Utility Line Clearance “Trimmer A” or equivalent, as approved by the BWL.
•Must pass BWL Leader Assessment or have completed the BWL’s Emerging Leaders course.
Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
•Candidates must possess a valid Ml License with an acceptable driving record.
•Upon hire they must provide proof of successful completion of the State of MI written portion of the Commercial Drivers License (CDL) examination and pass the Department of Transportation (DOT) physical exam.
•Within 6 months of the date of hire they must successfully pass the MI CDL skills/road.
•Internal applicants must currently possess valid MI CDL with required endorsements or at minimum, pass DOT physical exam and State of MI written portion of CDL examination within 15 days of transfer.
•Individuals will be subject to DOT requirements in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMSCA), including random testing for controlled substances and alcohol.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
•Must be able to lift and carry wood and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds.
•Sufficient visual acuity is essential for the operation of aerial bucket trucks, brush chippers, and other power-driven equipment.
•Work requires comfort with heights exceeding 75 feet and ability to access trees either manually or via bucket truck.
•Job functions require prolonged standing and frequent work above and below shoulder level.
•Must have the physical ability to climb, stoop, bend, twist, and other movements necessary for tree work.
•Outdoor temperature and humidity ranges.
•Noise and saw dust levels may be high at times when working at or above the ground.
•Must work in high traffic areas.
