Utility Arborist (Vegetation Management)
Colorado Springs Utilities' electric system includes more than 1,000 miles of overhead distribution and transmission lines. You will primarily support our electric line crews through overseeing our line clearance program, including managing daily operations, coordinating external tree contractor work, maintaining the trim cycle, supervising the application of herbicide, and ensuring compliant and comprehensive vegetation work plans. The work that you will do is critical to ensuring our utility crews' ability to safely and effectively maintain reliable power for the Colorado Springs community while being aware of wildfire hazard and trimming/removing accordingly.
What Else Will You be Doing?
•Planning and scheduling cyclical vegetation work for contracted tree crews
•Coordinating vegetation work during unplanned, emergency, or storm events with contracted tree crews and Colorado Springs Utilities' line crews
•Collaborating with line crews on new construction prints for overhead and underground planning
•Overseeing and auditing tree contractor work to ensure compliance with utility specifications
•Receiving, investigating, and addressing customer concerns on tree-caused power outages
•Coordinating with customers when line clearance work is required on their property
•Ensuring compliance with NERC regulations, specifically, serving as the SME for FAC003-5 (Transmission Vegetation Management) - and ensuring compliance with WECC regulations
•Managing line program bids and contract administration
•Establishing and maintaining relationships with internal and external customers, including the US Forest Service, Colorado State Forest Service, City Forestry, Colorado Springs Fire Department, and Colorado Springs military installations
Who You Are
•Experience in vegetation management, forestry, and utility line clearance
•Possession of the following certifications and licenses: ISA Certified Arborist; ISA Certified Utility Specialist; and Colorado Department of Agriculture Qualified Supervisor License for Category 109 (Industrial Right of Way)
Possession of Colorado Department of Agriculture Wood Preservation and Wood Products Treatment (Category 306) is valued*
Possession of an ISA Municipal Arborist Certification is valued*
Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license is required* - this job requires operating Utilities vehicles as an essential job function
