The opportunity
Leduc County is looking for experienced and highly motivated Utilities Technicians - Seasonal to join our team for May to August 2025 season. Reporting to the Supervisor – Waste Management & Utilities, this exciting opportunity is accountable for the delivery of water and wastewater programs within the County. Through effectively managing priorities, the technician is a key contributor to the achievement of the department’s operational deliverables.

What you will do
1. Contributes to the delivery of the department’s operational plan and utility programs by performing work and adhering to technical and municipal standards.
•Assists in the delivery of operational activities.
•Prioritizes work in a changeable environment.
•Performs meter installations and bi-monthly meter readings.
•Contributes to the execution of municipal utilities maintenance plans.
2. Provides operational and maintenance support to the solid wastewater transfer stations.

4. Maintains yards and properties associated with municipal water, wastewater and solid waste facilities.
5. Adheres to guidelines as set out in Leduc County’s policies and administrative directives.
6. Accountable for working in compliance with the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code and participation in the Health, Safety and Wellness Program.
7. Performs related duties as required and assigned.
What you need to succeed
Must-have
•A high school diploma, enrollment in an Environmental Program and working toward certification in Water Distribution Certification (Level I) and Wastewater Collection Certification (Level I) is required.
•Proficiency with Microsoft Office and confined Space Entry and Monitor, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Standard First Aid, hydrogen sulfide (H2S Alive) courses (or willing to obtain) is required.
•Must be able to maintain confidentiality, contribute effectively to a team environment, and provide consistent, friendly, professional customer service.
•Proven achievement of results is key to success in the role.
•A service focus with good communication and interpersonal skills is required in order to communicate clearly (both verbally and in writing), ensure mutual understanding and encourage teamwork in the implementation of duties and prioritizing tasks independently.
•Must be able to maintain confidentiality, contribute effectively in a team environment, and provide consistent, friendly, professional customer service.
•An Alberta Class 5 driver’s license and the ability to obtain security and health clearance at the Edmonton International Airport is required.
Nice to have
•Experience in the operation and maintenance of municipal water, wastewater, and solid waste infrastructure and working with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Geographic Information System (GIS) is considered an asset.

•We offer a competitive hourly wage of between $19.52 and $ 25.11. The opportunity is seasonal full-time and is 40 hours per week scheduled Monday to Friday, with some extended hours to meet operational requirements.
