We are seeking a dedicated and versatile Utility Worker to join our team. The Utility Worker plays a vital role in maintaining the functionality and cleanliness of our facilities. This position requires a proactive individual who can perform various tasks to support operations and ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
A utility labor hand's job involves physically assisting in the installation, maintenance, and repair of public utilities and infrastructure, such as water, sewer, and storm systems, by operating various hand and power tools, preparing work sites, moving materials, and performing basic construction tasks under supervision. Key responsibilities include site cleanup, trench digging, pipe laying, assisting other skilled trades, maintaining equipment, and ensuring adherence to safety standards in various weather conditions.
- Physical Labor:. Performing tasks such as digging trenches, backfilling, moving and loading materials, and erecting scaffolding.
- Tool & Equipment Operation:. Safely using a variety of hand tools (hammers, wrenches) and power tools (air hammers, saws, tampers) and operating small machinery like compactors and hoists.
- Site Preparation & Maintenance:. Cleaning and preparing construction or work sites, including site cleanup and removing debris.
- Utility Installation & Repair:. Assisting with the installation and repair of underground utilities like water lines, storm drains, and sewer lines.
- Assisting Skilled Trades:. Supporting skilled tradespeople, such as pipefitters, mechanics, or carpenters, by holding materials or tools.
- Safety Compliance:. Adhering to safety regulations, maintaining a clean and orderly work area, and performing basic safety inspections.
- Physical Stamina: The ability to perform heavy physical labor, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Manual Dexterity: Skill in using hand and power tools effectively.
- Teamwork: The ability to work effectively as part of a crew and take direction from supervisors.
- Adaptability: Performing duties in various weather conditions and potentially on different types of utility projects.
- Valid Driver's License: May be required to operate vehicles and get to job sites.
