Overview

Perform under supervision on a regular, irregular, or rotating shift schedule assigned duties in connection with the operation and routine maintenance of turbines, boilers, generators, pollution control equipment, auxiliary equipment, HVAC, and other equipment pertinent to plant operations.


Responsibilities

Position may be filled at the Auxiliary Operator, Unit Assistant, or Unit Operator level based on the successful candidate’s background and experience. Additional responsibilities may be included for higher levels of the Auxiliary Operator and Unit Assistant roles.


Include but not limited to:

Employee will be knowledgeable of and follow all safety rules, procedures and practices
Direct the training and development of other employees in correct operating procedures necessary to fully satisfy the classification duties of Unit Operator Assistant and all lower classifications within the line of progression.
Actively participate and successfully complete assigned training activities and requirements.
In normal performance of duties, employee will watch for and promptly report to supervision any damaged or defective equipment or conditions which may cause damage or injury.
Employee will perform duties of lower or higher classifications that are incidental to the job and are within their capabilities, including those needed for purpose of training in the requirements of the higher classification.
Employee will keep all equipment, tools, materials, and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
Employee will perform work in a responsible and cooperative manner to facilitate a positive working environment.
Employee will compile information and generate reports, forms and documents as required.
Employee will represent the Company to the community with attention to the highest standards of conduct, appearance and attitude. Include but not limited to the following, in addition to those of Auxiliary Operator:
Employee will be knowledgeable of Condensate Systems including flow path, all system components, and associated equipment, and the locations and functions of each.
Employee will be knowledgeable of the Feedwater Systems and all major components, including inspection, isolation, warm up, setup, and bypass procedures for Boiler Feed Pumps and LP/HP Heaters.
Employee will be proficient in Seal Oil System operations.
Employee will check and operate Demineralized Water systems, including anion, cation, and mixed bed regeneration.
Employee will be knowledgeable of Dry Ash Systems if applicable. Inspect and report problems to Unit Operator or supervisor. Assist in or perform unplugging of hoppers or any other tasks required in maintaining proper system operation.
Employee will monitor water chemistry and be able to recommend and carry out as directed corrective actions whenever parameters fall outside normal operating ranges.
Employee will carry out at the request of Unit Operator or Shift Supervisor on duty, any tasks required to maintain orderly and efficient operation of the units. Tasks include but are not limited to those associated with pulverizer setup or isolation, boiler lancing, valve operations, and generation/unit readings.
Employee will take and record readings and change charts on recording meters and instruments as directed. Will be knowledgeable of readings in order to recognize problems or abnormal conditions as they arise.
Employee will be knowledgeable of de-energization (Lock Out/Tag Out) procedures, and will prepare and place cards as directed and in accordance with procedures on equipment in a manner to ensure that all potentially hazardous stored or residual energy has been removed or rendered safe.
Employee will be knowledgeable of locations and operation of various switchgear, motor control centers, transformers, breakers, disconnects, etc. and the flow of power through each.
Employee will perform switching duties.
Employee will be knowledgeable with mechanical and electrical drawings and prints.
Employee will be knowledgeable in the use of computers and company information systems.
Employee will perform functions as assigned in other areas of the plant, such as but not limited to laboratory, maintenance, planning office, administration, etc.


Qualifications

Position may be filled at the Auxiliary Operator, Unit Assistant, or Unit Operator level based on the successful candidate’s background and experience.


EDUCATIONAL_EXPERIENCE


Include but not limited to:

Must meet all general qualifications of employment.
Must be able and willing to comply with all safety rules.
Must be able to safely perform physical requirements of the job.
Must possess the willingness and ability to acquire necessary knowledge and skills to advance to higher classifications.
Must have successfully completed all required testing and training programs promulgated by the company.
Must have at least 2 years experience at Auxiliary Operator classification, or equivalent, and have successfully completed all training and testing programs required in that classification.
Must have demonstrated proficiency in the ability to perform duties associated with the lower classification(s) within the line of progression.


WORK_CONDITIONS

Industrial work environment including exposures to temperature extremes (hot, cold) associated with inspection and operation of power plant equipment and systems. Work includes heights (ladders, platforms, stairs, etc.) and proximity to high-voltages. Dust and debris associated with fossil fuels and fuel by-products. Respirator use required.


PHYSICAL_EFFORTS

Must be able to lift 50 lbs. from the ground to the height of 30 inches on a daily basis; Typical equipment/materials that must be lifted includes but is not limited to tools, materials, bags of oil dri, barrels of liquid; Able to climb up and down stairs and vertical ladders unassisted on a hourly basis.
