Graymont (PA) is seeking a well-organized, highly motivated individual to fill the position of Underground Mine Foreman. This individual will lead a crew of underground miners in the current production level of approximately two million tons per year of crushed limestone. The keys to success will be a strong focus on safety, open/honest communication, teamwork, and continuous improvement in all aspects of the underground mine operation.
- Intense focus on safety and keeping the mine crew engaged in safety awareness.
- Provide leadership that instills confidence and encourages teamwork.
- Assign jobs and monitor work in progress to achieve mine production.
- Continuous focus on ways to improve miner’s skills.
- Ensure mine crews adhere to all safety, environmental and mining regulations.
- Conduct workplace exams of all active workplaces and travel ways.
- Ensure proper completion of risk assessments, workplace exams, and equipment pre-shift inspections along with all associated documentation.
- Mark headings for drilling to maintain alignment and heading dimensions.
- Examine roof conditions and work with the mine crew to correct defects in the mine roof.
- Coordinate with maintenance foreman and maintenance personnel to maintain both stationary and mobile equipment reliability.
- Ensure the underground mine is meeting the plant requirements by frequently meeting with plant operations.
- Monitor overtime list for compliance with overtime distribution.
- Verify time sheets for mine employees, along with absentee reports, and submit weekly for payroll processing.
- Enter work orders in JDE and ensure equipment defects have work orders assigned by the operator.
- Discipline and recognize in a fair and consistent manner.
- Must have worked in an underground industrial mineral mine for a minimum of 5 years or have a degree as a Mine Engineer with experience in a related field.
- Have a valid blaster’s license and mine foreman card from state of Pennsylvania.
- Knowledge of drilling, blasting, mobile equipment and organizing a daily work schedule.
- Solid understanding of labor relations and bargaining unit agreements.
- Knowledge of MSHA regulations and the state of Pennsylvania regulations.
- Proven ability to handle multiple tasks and demands.
- Good record keeping skills and basic computer skills.
- Diligent documentation of daily activities and any incidents that occur during the shift.
