Reporting to the Asset protection and Emergency Management Superintendent, you will be part of the Underground Department. The Underground Emergency Response Specialist will undertake day-to-day operational, administrative, and supervisory responsibilities associated with the training programs put in place by the Emergency Response Coordinator. The Underground Emergency Response Specialist possesses extensive technical competence in firefighting operations and techniques, incident command system principles and functions, and current teaching and instructional methods. General responsibilities include, but are not limited to: planning, developing, coordinating, supervising, and evaluating fire department training programs and staff development activities. Leadership and supervisory competency for this position are significant. Extensive initiative and independence of judgment and action are required in this position. This position also acts as the Emergency Response Coordinator in their absence. The position will also include regular maintenance on rescue equipment as directed by the Emergency Response Coordinator. Hours of work will vary to accommodate operational requirements such as meetings, training schedules, and volunteer firefighter availability. You will ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.
- Establish and prioritize departmental goals and objectives that align with the Company’s mission and visons;
- Under the Direction of the Emergency Response Coordinator, this position works directly with the volunteer-appointed Captains, Firefighters, and external entities in establishing the department’s training plans;
- Establishes short and Long-term training objectives and programs in consultation with the Emergency Response Coordinator and appointed volunteer training Captains, linking training goals to operational needs, regulatory requirements, and applicable industry standards.
- Develop training lesson plan material, and curriculum, and maintain department training facilities, equipment, and resource material;
- Liaise with Ontario Mine Rescue officials to ensure adherence to training, Mutual Aid and Memorandum of Understanding agreements and adhered to and upkeep and availability of outlined equipment as prescribed,
- Works directly with volunteer Officers to ensure training delivery and compliance with department training objectives and goals, while providing oversight for maintaining member certifications and third-party training, including specialty programs and instructor activities;
- Assists with volunteer Firefighter recruitment process and selection activities, including coordinating and developing recruit Firefighter training program, conducting skills assessments and evaluations; and preparing and proctoring recruitment examinations;
- Instructs or coaches department officers in NFPA 1041 Fire Service Instructor competencies to ensure successful delivery of training at the crew level;
- Reviews training reports, measures overall training progress and regularly reports to Emergency Response Coordinator;
- Performs special project work, including but not limited to research and analysis of firefighting best practices, training, and related operational issues;
- The mitigation of fires/explosions and environmental incidents and saving of life and company property;
- Delivering a full range of emergency services—including medical response, rescue operations (confined space, high-angle, elevator, trench, and surface water), hazardous materials incidents, airport emergencies, and other related services—performed safely, competently, and professionally as required
- Ensuring the proper preventive maintenance of fire department equipment, structure & building fire equipment, site fire systems, both water and non-water-based, plus all related equipment;
- Supports emergency incidents, Investigations, Inspections, Incident Action Plans, Emergency Operation Centers, and as required provides support and direction to non-suppression/Rescue departments within the company;
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Post-Secondary education, in an applicable or related field;
- Minimum Ontario Driver’s License with D-Z Endorsement;
- Minimum of 3-5 years in an officer or leadership role;
- 5 years’ experience in firefighting within an industrial and or municipal capacity;
- Emergency Medical Responder Certification or willingness to obtain;
- Underground Hard Rock Miner Common Core Certification
- ICS 100, 200 & 300 or willingness to obtain;
- NFPA 1001 Level I & II (Pro Board and/or IFSAC Accredited)
- NFPA 1072 Hazardous Materials Operations (Pro Board and/or IFSAC Accredited)
- NFPA 1002 Apparatus Driver Operator Certification;
- NFPA 1021 Fire Officer Certification (Must complete Levels 1 & 2 within 12 months);
- NFPA 1041 Fire Service Instructor Certification (Must complete Levels 1 & 2 within 12 months);
- NFPA 1006 Technical Rescue (Confined Space, Rope, Elevator, Trench, Surface Water, Vehicle and Machinery);
- NFPA 1003 Airport professional or CARS 3.1.4;
- NFPA 1051 Wildland firefighter;
- Excellent working knowledge of all Microsoft Office Suite applications especially Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint.
- Schedule: 14/14 schedule at our Detour Lake Mine;
- Accommodations and meals are provided on site at no cost to the employee. Agnico Eagle provides transportation to and from the mine site and will accommodate to cover other travelling expenses according to your location of residence in Canada.
