What You’ll Do
You will ensure the operational reliability and maintenance of underground (UG) equipment across all sites, while providing emergency coverage as an Underground Operator when site-assigned operators are unavailable due to unexpected conditions such as sickness, vacation, or other absences. The position is approximately 80% focused on mechanical responsibilities and 20% on UG operator support, and reports directly to the Director of Commercial Operations. Your essential functions are comprised of:
Mechanic Duties (80%):
•Perform regular maintenance, inspections, and repairs on UG equipment to ensure operational reliability in accordance with standard operating procedures and company standards.
•Conduct site visits to perform audits on UG equipment, ensuring compliance with safety and performance standards.
•Support and contribute to the development of Preventative Maintenance (PM) programs for UG equipment to enhance equipment longevity and efficiency.
•Troubleshoot and repair UG equipment when not in proper working condition, minimizing downtime and ensuring operational continuity.
•Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, audits, and repairs, completing all required documentation within time requirements.
•Assist in site maintenance and general operations as required to support overall site functionality.
•Participate in safety meetings, review safety documents (safety alerts, emergency plans, etc.), and report all accidents, incidents, and precautionary concerns related to equipment maintenance.
Emergency Underground Operator Duties (20%):
•Safely operate and maintain loading and delivery equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures when covering for absent UG Operators.
•Deliver correct explosive products to loading sites, ensuring compliance with company standards and client expectations.
•Possess a good general knowledge of handling, storing, and using explosives on surface (NRC regulations).
•Ensure compliance with applicable Company HSE Performance Standards, as well as applicable acts and regulations, during emergency operator duties.
•Accurately and fully complete all required documentation and reports related to emergency UG Operator tasks within time requirements.
•Contribute to strong positive relations between the Company and the Site’s prime client during emergency coverage.
•Demonstrate initiative and embrace the Company’s standards for safety and customer satisfaction while performing operator duties.
•Respect and support fellow employees during emergency coverage periods.
General Duties:
•Attend specified training and development programs and maintain required certifications for both mechanic and operator roles.
•Guarantee that a safe working environment is maintained in compliance with all of Dyno Nobel’s safety rules and regulations.
•Work independently, traveling between sites as required, with potential for overtime, overnight runs, or weekend work based on operational needs.
What We’re Looking For:
Education:
•Grade 12 Diploma or the equivalent (mandatory)
Experience:
•Proven Underground experience (mandatory).
•Proven mechanical experience with heavy equipment maintenance (asset).
•Ability to trouble-shoot problems with bulk truck equipment (asset).
