Tug Supervisor
Summary of Position
The Tug Supervisor oversees tugboat operations supporting marine & terminal activities, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of vessels, docking, and towing operations. The Tug Supervisor also acts as Captain of line handling boats to assist vessels during mooring operations. This role is responsible for supervising crew members, coordinating with marine traffic control, and ensuring full compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. The Tug Supervisor plays a critical role in maintaining seamless marine logistics, minimizing operational risks, and ensuring the smooth transfer of petroleum products at the terminal.
Qualifications
•High school diploma or equivalent required.
•Bachelor’s degree in Marine Transportation or Marine Engineering is a plus.
•U.S. Coast Guard Master or Mate License.
•Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping (STCW).
•Five (5) or more years experience in maritime operations, preferably in oil and gas terminal tugboat or marine support services.
•Leadership experience in supervising marine crews and coordinating vessel movements.
•Deep knowledge of maritime regulations, including USCG, MARPOL, and OCIMF standards.
•Proficiency in towing, maneuvering, and escorting large vessels in high-risk environments.
•Strong communication and coordination skills with marine traffic controllers, port authorities, and terminal personnel.
•Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues and work with maintenance teams to ensure vessel reliability.
•Physically capable of performing onboard duties, including working in varying weather conditions.
•Ability to obtain, or currently possess, a valid Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) Ability and willingness to work extended hours, nights, rotating shifts, and holidays when required.
•On-call availability for emergency or operational demands.
Physical Requirements
•Ability to climb stairs and pilot ladders up to 60 feet and onboard vessels.
•Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, climb tanks, push and pull, reach overhead, operate hand tools, stoop and squat, wear breathing apparatus, enter confined spaces and utilize all necessary personal protective equipment.
•Ability to sit, walk, and stand for extended period.
•Ability to work outdoors and on a vessel in difficult conditions, including adverse weather conditions.
