Walters Buildings, the premier family-owned post fame builder in the Midwest, is hiring a Transportation Coordinator to join our Manufacturing Operations team at our corporate office in Allenton, WI.
Position Summary:
Under the general direction of the Director of Manufacturing Operations, the Transportation Coordinator is responsible for load planning, developing and coordinating shipping schedules, ensuring compliance with DOT and company safety regulations, and managing the maintenance program for the fleet.
Duties/Responsibilities:
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all‑inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Shipping and Load Planning
•Develop, coordinate, and oversee shipping schedules to ensure timely and cost-effective deliveries. This includes coordinating and scheduling deliveries for all additional material orders.
•Coordinates the delivery of all loads from the Allenton and Fairfield plants, utilizing existing delivery personnel and contract trucking.
•Secures oversize and other permits needed to transport jobs to worksites.
•Plan and optimize load configurations to maximize efficiency and comply with weight and safety regulations.
•Communicate with internal teams, drivers, and vendors to coordinate shipping logistics.
•Monitor shipments to address any delays or issues and proactively implement solutions.
Fleet Compliance & Safety
•Ensure full compliance with DOT regulations, company policies, and industry safety standards.
•Maintain accurate records of driver certifications, licensing, and compliance documentation.
•Conduct regular audits of fleet operations to identify and mitigate risks.
•Develop and enforce safety protocols and training programs for drivers and fleet operators.
Fleet Maintenance & Management
•Oversee the maintenance and repair program for the fleet, ensuring all equipment remains in safe and operational condition.
•Schedule and track routine maintenance, inspections, and necessary repairs.
•Maintain accurate records of vehicle servicing, repairs, and associated costs.
•Work with vendors and service providers to ensure high-quality and cost-effective fleet maintenance.
Operational Support & Continuous Improvement
•Analyze logistics and fleet performance to identify opportunities for efficiency improvements.
•Implement best practices for cost reduction, route optimization, and asset utilization.
•Assist in budgeting and forecasting related to transportation and fleet expenses.
•Provide reports and insights to senior leadership on fleet operations and logistics performance.
•Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
•Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and fleet safety requirements.
•Experience with shipping coordination, load planning, and route optimization.
•Proficiency in fleet management software, logistics planning tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
•Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
•Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.

Working Environment and Physical Demands:
•Perform the majority work in an office setting. Will need to enter the manufacturing plant, yard and corporate office to communicate with employees’ and drivers.
•Prolonged periods sitting/standing at a desk and working on a computer.
Education and Experience:
•Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred) or equivalent work experience.
•3+ years of experience in logistics, transportation coordination, or fleet management.
