PEOPLE. That's the power behind ENMAX Corporation. As one of Alberta's leading energy and utility providers, our employees are the strength and knowledge that continue to drive our success. At the ENMAX group of companies, we look for energy solutions for today, while knowing we have the power to provide for a better tomorrow.

We’re looking for a Transmission Sustainment Capital Planning Engineer to join ENMAX Power Corporation’s (EPC) Transmission team. In this role, you’ll play a key part in developing, maintaining, and advancing power delivery asset replacement programs across our Transmission system.

As part of the Transmission Sustainment Capital Planning group, you’ll help shape and enhance EPC’s asset management practices while supporting the development and execution of the capital business plan. You’ll oversee existing capital projects and lead the development and justification of new ones, ensuring alignment with corporate priorities and compliance within the Transmission Cost of Service regulatory framework.

This role requires a strong technical background and a significant focus on regulatory application support, ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of engineering, strategy, and stakeholder collaboration.

Major Responsibilities:

Create and approve strategic transmission asset strategies, asset management plans, project execution plans, and business cases for EPC substation assets and associated equipment (e.g., power transformers, switchgear, and protection and control equipment).

Develop and apply decision parameters that support consistent, risk-based utility asset management (e.g., replacement, refurbishment, rejuvenation, or repair).

Evaluate benefits and risks of proposed technical solutions and provide innovative recommendations or alternate options where appropriate.

Prepare and defend capital justifications through analytical evaluations to secure regulatory approval for asset-driven capital replacement or modification projects.

Lead and provide direct support for transmission capital projects and programs from initiation through to completion.

Provide technical support for regulatory applications and hearings.

Contribute to the development and execution of the transmission integrated plan, aligning capital initiatives with business objectives.

Coordinate and support the preparation of annual asset replacement capital plans and budgets to ensure alignment with corporate priorities.

Develop, implement, and maintain process maps, standards, procedures, and documentation to enhance the execution and governance of capital programs.

Identify and implement process improvements in collaboration with internal groups to increase the efficiency of capital program execution.

Collaborate with EPC work groups to support the success of the Transmission Sustainment Capital Planning team.

Build and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, including regulators, to integrate best practices and innovation in asset management.

Share technical knowledge to support and guide peers across the organization.

Education Required:

Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering.

P.Eng status with The Association of Professionals in Engineering and Geoscience in Alberta (APEGA).

Qualifications & Experience:

Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience

Familiarity with the operation and maintenance of substation medium and high voltage transformers, circuit breakers, switches, protection and control relays.

Previous experience in equipment asset management, including life-cycle principles, condition assessment, and risk analysis.

Previous experience developing strategies, creating execution plans, and writing business cases for capital projects.

Previous experience with the technical evaluation, design, or construction of substation equipment and protection and control equipment.

Understanding of industry standards (CSA, IEEE, IEC, etc.) pertaining to the design and testing of equipment and materials.

Competencies:

Ability to manage projects that require coordination with multiple stakeholders.

Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills through innovation and outside-the-box thinking.

Business acumen to be able to understand the financial impact of technical decisions.

Well-versed in written and verbal communication skills.

Strong leadership skills and experience with negotiation and conflict resolution.
