Transmission Maintenance Technologist 1 - FTR

Annual salary: $ 78,000.00 - 84,100.00
What you'll do
•Performs a variety of technical, administrative and planning functions related to the maintenance of transmission lines,
including designing minor relocations, estimating, scheduling, acceptance inspections, testing and monitoring.
•Performs a variety of technical, administrative, and planning functions related to maintenance of rights-of-way, such as
vegetation inventory collection, pesticide use, prescriptions, contracting, priority assessments and property issues.
•Coordinates and/or performs activities involved in the surveying, tendering and inspection of transmission slope stability,
erosion and civil work.
•Provides technical input, assesses, coordinates and administers a variety of special programs and projects associated
with transmission line maintenance.
•Prepares tenders and administers maintenance contracts, including drafting specifications and supporting documentation,
tendering, evaluating, procurement, holding pre-job meetings, inspecting, approving progress payments and preparing end
of job reports.
•Liaises, communicates and makes applications, as required, with governmental agencies and stakeholders in regards to
maintenance activities to insure adherence to all legislation and environmental standards.
•Establishes and maintains a variety of records such as specifications, drawings, design data, structure data sheets, route
plans, profiles, load capacity data and maintenance records, spare parts inventory records, equipment catalogue files,
reference material and technical literature.
•Assists the manager by preparing operating budgets by assessing costs of planned projects and programs, analyzes
monthly variance statements and prepares maintenance activity summary reports.
•Utilizes computer programs to create and update reports on inventory, maintenance scheduling and expenditures.
•Provides technical advice, guidance and direction to IBEW and contractors' crews engaged in right-of-way, underground
and overhead transmission line maintenance.
•Performs troubleshooting duties on transmission line equipment, rights-of-way and interprets test results and prepares
report summaries.
•Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties which do not affect the rating of the job.
What you bring
•Diploma in Technology from an Institute of Technology plus additional training in contract administration, forestry and
arboriculture. Up to 2 years experience working in a T&D related maintenance job is a requirement.
•Must hold a valid BC Driver's Licence.

This position is affiliated with the Movement of United Professionals union (MoveUP/COPE). http://moveuptogether.ca
•Regular exposure to field work. Up to 50% of time spent in the field when performing inspection and troubleshooting
functions.
•Exposed to all weather conditions, work in construction areas and walk over rough terrain in remote areas, on a regular
basis.
•Use of helicopters, snow mobiles, ATVs and small boats for inspection work, is a requirement of the job.
•Some exposure to wild animals and dogs. Drive a 4X4 on back roads. Some exposure to hazardous materials.
Occasional exposure to irate customers.
•This is a busy position with tight deadlines. Previous experience in an engineering office would be an asset.
