Trainer, Health and Safety
Alamos Gold’s Young-Davidson is a low-cost, long-life operation and one of Canada’s largest underground gold mines. It is located near the town of Matachewan centrally located between Timmins, Kirkland Lake, North Bay and Sudbury, Ontario. The 2020 completion of a highly automated, lower mine expansion has resulted in Young-Davidson increasing production and generating strong free cash flow. With a large Mineral Reserve base, it will serve as Alamos’ foundation for growth for many years to come. Reporting to the Superintendent, Health, Safety and Training, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing and administering training programs for operations staff ensuring site safety, loss control and environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
•Deliver onsite training aligned with ministry guidelines and ensuring compliance with company standards and policies;
•Correct any substandard behaviors, using mentoring and coaching strategies to ensure compliance;
•Assist with employee orientation / site inductions;
•Provide advice on safety and training matters to departments;
•Collaborate with frontline supervisors to identify training needs, determine the source of any gaps and appropriate methods to close them;
•Oversee experienced employees who are providing additional training (Peer Training);
•Assisting in the development and review of procedures;
•Developing and reviewing training assessment material;
•Set up, review training plans, administer of training documentation in line with common core modules;
•Assist in risk assessments as required;
•Contribute to the promotion and development of Health, Safety and Training initiatives and awareness through a team-based approach;
•Participate in the on-call roster / system as required;
•Provide support to the business leadership group to ensure day-to-day site training requirements are met;
•Prepare internal material and tests for training modules as per legislation and company requirements;
•Maintain accurate training records and files;
•Ensure all files are complete according to company and ministry standards;
•Ensure all employees have been properly signed off for equipment they have been trained to operate;
•Ensure all training records are put in employee training files and ensure the database is updated;
•Register MTCU modules for accreditation;
•Perform job observations on all employees in the mine to determine if follow-up training is necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
•‘Train the Trainer’ accreditation;
•Accreditation in government training modules for Program 770010;
•Minimum 5 years’ experience in a mine production environment;
•Self-starter who can anticipate the needs and work independently with minimal supervision;
•Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail, able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, growing work environment;
•Excellent inter-personal skills together with an ability to facilitate commitment to a cooperative team effort;
•Good communication skills, both orally and written with both internal and external contacts and the ability to work with all levels of the organization; and
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs is required.
Schedule: 10 hours, 7 days on / 7 days off.
