The Technology Solutions Architect Engineer is responsible for designing, evaluating, and implementing effective technology solutions that align with Hydro Ottawa’s business and operational goals. This role plays a key part in developing solution architectures that integrate business requirements, information flows, application functionality, and infrastructure components across both Information Technology and Operational Technology environments. The Technology Solutions Architect Engineer works closely with technical teams, business units, and project stakeholders to ensure that technology solutions are secure, scalable, maintainable, and aligned with enterprise architecture standards.
- Design and document solution architectures for new systems, services, and technology initiatives, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture principles and business requirements.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical requirements, integration points, and data flows across systems and platforms.
- Support the evaluation and selection of technology components, frameworks, and tools to ensure optimal performance, cost-effectiveness, and security.
- Participate in solution reviews and architecture governance processes to ensure consistency with architectural standards and practices.
- Develop conceptual, logical, and physical architecture diagrams to illustrate current and future state environments.
- Assess the impact of proposed changes or new implementations on existing systems and infrastructure.
- Provide technical leadership and support throughout the project lifecycle, from planning and design through implementation and transition to operations.
- Ensure solution designs consider cybersecurity, disaster recovery, and business continuity requirements.
- Research and evaluate emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices, and make recommendations in support of innovation and modernization efforts.
- Support quality assurance, testing, and troubleshooting efforts by collaborating with development and operations teams.
- Develop and contribute to architecture documentation, guidelines, standards, decision records, technology roadmaps, and reusable solution patterns; and prepare presentations as required.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Post-secondary education in a related discipline such as Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Information Systems.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licensed or able to be licensed in the province of Ontario.
- Minimum 5 years’ progressive experience in IT solution design, systems integration, or enterprise application development.
- Strong knowledge of solution architecture principles and practices, including design patterns, APIs, and integration methodologies.
- Experience with cloud computing (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS), hybrid environments, and modern application architectures (e.g., microservices, containers).
- Familiarity with enterprise platforms and technologies, such as ERP systems, CRM, GIS, or operational technologies.
- Demonstrated experience in translating business requirements into technical solutions.
- Proficiency with modeling tools and techniques (e.g., UML, BPMN, ArchiMate) considered an asset.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across business and technical teams.
- Strong computer skills; proficient in the use of office productivity and collaboration tools, preferably Google Workspace.
- English essential, both oral and written; Bilingual (English/French) considered an asset.
This is a management group opportunity and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.
