The Opportunity


Position:                             Technician/Technologist


Employment Type:             Permanent


Location:                             Toronto, ON


Department:                       Medical Isotopes


Reports to:                          Portfolio Manager

Hours per week:                 40 hrs/week | Shift Work Position. Workers will be assigned 8 or 10 or 12 hour shifts as rotating shifts (days, afternoons, and/or nights). Weekend work will be required. Overtime may be required.

Kinectrics is building its Medical Isotopes portfolio, which is to span the supply chain from stable isotope production to cGMP radioisotope and drug product manufacturing.

Kinectrics is seeking senior technicians/technologists to support our expanding medical isotope program that will help us meet the global demands for the next generation of medical isotopes. This position will aid in establishing Kinectrics as a leader in uninterrupted supply of high-quality isotopes that will be used in life-saving medications for patients worldwide.

As a senior level technologist/technician, you will conduct or direct investigations and technical studies of complex nature in one or more technical disciplines with a high degree of independence. This may include leading or supervising others on various phases of the projects, dealing with internal or external clients to solve problems, responding to inquiries and maintaining good relations. You will be leading the setup, commissioning and use of innovative technologies, equipment and methods for materials production and processing. There will be extensive co-working with other scientific and engineering disciplines. This is a great opportunity for a hands-on role in an innovative and growing environment.

Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact

- Perform all duties in a safe manner in compliance with Kinectrics policies and procedures.

- Lead and execute complex processes, investigations, and technical studies for customers in one or more disciplines such as chemical, civil, mechanical, metallurgical, electrical/electronics, computer science, non-destructive evaluation, material science, environmental science, biology, etc.

- Lead and execute the setup and maintenance of complex equipment, processes, systems.

- Lead and execute a team in the conduct of experiments, service equipment, quality control, and inventory tracking.

- Lead and execute the trouble-shoot, service, and calibration of the repair or installation of equipment, processes, or products.

- Supervise, train, coordinate the work of others and participate in short- and long-range planning

- Prepare estimates and may manage budgets, staff scheduling and allocate work assignments

- Interpret and prepare specifications, technical drawings, or instructions

- Develop, write, and utilize advanced computer systems and software for data acquisition and manipulation and engineering applications for projects

- Critically review data and prepare technical reports written by self or others

- Lead and execute the preparation of operational procedures, instructions, and specifications.

- Respond to customer inquiries, maintain good customer relations, and solve problems.

- Ensure customer satisfaction by following good quality and safety practices in all aspects of the work performed.

- Perform other duties as required.


What You Need to Succeed

- Completion of three-year community college or High School or undergraduate degree in engineering/science technology program in a specific discipline or equivalent plus specialized course.

- Minimum 10 years related experience or equivalent combined academic and practical experience.

- Recognized authority in mechanical and/or electrical components, instrumentation, etc. to facilitate the execution of routine operations and tests.

- Excellent hands-on experience in the areas of operations, mechanical and electrical assembly including PLC wiring, interface with computer applications, maintenance and/or troubleshoot of complex equipment and processes.

- Experience in solving complex problems where solutions require considerable investigation to resolve and often require integration of a number of technical fields.

- Excellent and demonstrated ability to exercise considerable judgment and resourcefulness in resolving technical problems.

- Excellent knowledge of instrumentation and laboratory equipment control

- Proven ability in developing laboratory and equipment standard operating and safety procedures.

- Proven ability to utilize computer software programs for data management. Experience in the use of Microsoft Office products for data analysis, charting and document preparation.

- Superior leadership, supervisory and training skills. Ability to work effectively and manage and mentor junior and intermediate technologists.

- Excellent and demonstrated ability to work effectively and interface with multiple team members.

- Excellent written (technical and non-technical) and verbal communication skills.

- Strong written (technical and non-technical) and verbal communication skills.

- Solid knowledge of Quality Assurance principles.

- Experience in a manufacturing/operations environment and compliance with all applicable safety protocols, procedures, standards, and Personal Protective Equipment requirements.

- Demonstrates excellent safety awareness and adherence to practices and procedures.

- Familiarity with vacuum systems, ion sources, laser systems, and/or accelerator systems is an asset.

- Hands-on experience in major interdisciplinary sub-system and system builds involving vacuum systems, ion sources, laser systems, and/or accelerator system is a strong asset

- Proven experience successfully commissioning systems including troubleshooting faults, conducting root causes, and implement fixes is a strong asset

- Ability to successfully obtain and maintain a valid nuclear site security clearance.
