Overview
Learn about the education and preparation needed to become an apprentice. This position evaluates compatibility, desire, mechanical aptitude and potential learning abilities to be successful in the technician craft at the District. Provide labor support in accordance with District safety guidelines, policies and procedures while demonstrating the skills and abilities to become a Technician Apprentice. This position will report to the Central Maintenance Tech Shop Superintendent
- Provide labor support for projects within the Technician work force and demonstrate aptitude and ability to become a Technician Apprentice.
- Perform installation, maintenance, and alignment with satisfactory completion of tasks under the supervision of a Superintendent, Technician, or Foreman Technician.
- Operate the technical tools and equipment used within the Tech Shop to successfully accomplish the work assigned.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance: Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. Comply with District policies. Complete all required training. Maintain a working knowledge and comply with District safety procedures and specific safety requirements of this position, and those in accordance with applicable provisions of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) and Washington Administrative Code (WAC).
- As an essential function, drive a motorized vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the District.

Education
Equivalent experience (year for year) may substitute for required education.
- Two years college or technical school with an emphasis on mathematics, physics, computers, electronics, automation, or related field preferred.
- Six (6) months work history demonstrating technical aptitude required.
- Demonstrated experience with electrical equipment or electronic components preferred
- Experience with industrial or utility control or automation preferred
- Valid Driver's License at hire and WA Driver's License within 30 days of hire
- CPR – Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation with Valid First Aid Card within 180 days
Skills and Abilities
A fully skilled incumbent will have the following knowledge skills & abilities:
- Knowledge of mathematical calculations, including algebra, and ability to perform these calculations.
- Requires the ability and desire to train through the apprenticeship program.
- Requires good interpersonal skills, ability to get along with others and ability to follow directions.
- Ability to problem solve under a variety of conditions
- To perform this job successfully, an individual is required to have knowledge of PeopleSoft Timekeeping/HR; Microsoft Outlook; Microsoft Excel; Microsoft Word; Maximo Asset Management; General Office Equipment; Power Equipment (drill, saber saw, reciprocating saw, grinder, etc.); Hand tools (screwdriver, wrench, pliers, soldering iron, etc.); electronics test equipment and vehicle operation.
- Must be proficient in reading, writing and speaking English.
