The Manh Choh Project is a greenfield gold deposit in eastern Alaska being developed with ore being hauled to Kinross’ Fort Knox mine north of Fairbanks for processing. The mine site is located in the Tetlin Hills, approximately 250 miles southeast of Fort Knox and 10 miles southeast of Tok. Production is expected to begin in 2024.
Job Description
To lead the execution of the long-term strategy for technical services including any or all of mine planning, survey, geology, exploration, environmental, projects and / or metallurgy. To formulate short and intermediate-term business plans; ensuring alignment with the organization’s overall strategy. To ensure the continued growth of technical services, to maximize operational efficiencies and profitability, and to cultivate exceptional stakeholder and employee satisfaction. Typically this role would manage all technical services on site in the most senior capacity
Job Responsibilities
•Develops and executes long-term strategies for technical services and ensures Kinross meets its strategic objectives
•Leads the execution of strategies in technical services to enhance current practices and performance
•Manages the human, financial, and operational resources of technical services
•Formulates the annual operating and capital budgets for technical services
•Develops and implements business practices and policies within technical services that align with the organization’s overall strategy
•Acts as a change agent and project sponsor for key initiatives in technical services; models organizational values, sets the cultural tone, and prioritizes business goals
•Leads and manages a senior team responsible for executing the technical services strategy
•Sets performance targets and measures, monitors, and manages overall performance of the function and direct reports
•Builds the capabilities of the team to enhance technical service’s ability to achieve financial and operating strategy; identifies succession role requirements and high potential talent, and actively develops key talent
Education and Experience
Education
•University degree in appropriate area of expertise
•Additional specialized education of up to 4 years including master’s level degree or equivalent
•Formal professional designation in appropriate area of expertise
Experience
•8 -12 years of related work experience in a leadership role
•Knowledge of engineering techniques as they apply to ore body evaluation and mine operations as well as of requirements of “Qualified Person” in reporting ore reserves
•General knowledge of mining and the integration of the mining, milling, and maintenance functions
•Knowledge and experience in developing policies and procedures relating to safety, the environment and individual, and organizational development
