Purpose of Role: Reporting to the Manufacturing Supervisor, the Operations Team Leader, Steel Processing is responsible for supervising and coordinating employees engaged in steel processing labour activities. The team leader is the liaison between employees and shift supervisors enforcing company policies and procedures while fostering a positive work culture on the shop floor. The Team Leader is responsibilities include safety, training and providing direction and support to employees

Key Responsibilities:
- Assists in the management of the department to achieve safety, production, job costing and quality objectives.
- Delegates tasks / responsibilities and dispatches appropriate resources to ready all required material prior to beginning of production shift.
- Ensures completion and quality inspection of orders to achieve delivery requirements as per CIS quality systems.
- Inspects work in progress and finished products according to CIS and industry standards and codes.
- Perform regular workplace inspections.
- Manage all labour steps and ensure accuracy of all activities, and participate in incident investigations as required.
- Contribute to the creation of a culture of accountability.
- Is assigned to acting supervisor, when necessary, in the absence of a permanent supervisor.
- Responsible for ongoing coaching and guiding departmental employees
- Develops the team in all aspects of operational excellence and establishes high standards for the group by providing assignments that showcase performance.
- Works closely with the SHE Coordinator and/or department trainer if applicable, to determine training plans and evaluations for new and existing employees
- Conduct safety conversations as well as encourage employees to do the same

- Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
- Recommends and communicates measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
- Develops or revises standard operational and working practices and observes workers to ensure compliance with standards.
- Examines defective machinery to determine cause of malfunction and reports need for machine repairs to shop supervisor.
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered for candidates that can perform the objectives above.
- Has a demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams with competing responsibilities
- Strong knowledge of machine capabilities, limits
- Must have basic knowledge of job-related computer applications.
- Must be an effective communicator with strong documentation skills.
- Experienced and capable of operating overhead crane’s, rigging and equipment.
- Experienced operating lift trucks.
- Ability to establish priorities, lining up the team with clear expectations and guidance.
- Ability to follow start up and shut down procedures.
- Certificates and Licenses: Overhead Crane, Forklift, Safety, WHMIS, First Aid
- Completion of Supervisor competency training is required in a reasonable time frame upon acceptance of the position.
