Rainy River Mine

Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit and underground, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.

The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. About The Role


Schedule: 14 days on, 14 days off - 12 hour days


Position Reports To: Senior Tailings Dam Engineer



Position Overview


Reporting to the Senior Tailings Dam Engineer (TDE), the Tailings Dam Technician (TDT) conducts various field & office tasks associated with tailings & water management dam performance monitoring through inspection & instrumentation data collection, analysis, and reporting. The Tailings Dam Technician will work closely with the Tailings Dam Engineer (TDE) and Tailings Dam Engineering-in-Training (TDEIT) who will direct field & office work assignments.


Field work assignments will include visual observation, collection of data including piezometer, settlement plates, slope inclinometers, tailings & water level readings, and other survey and GPS field work as required. Field work will occur in any weather and during all seasons.


Office work assignments will include data input, assessment, and reporting, and the management of instrumentation database systems using Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access. The role will require strict adherence with company policy (including the OMS) to comply with the tailings management system, industry regulations, and commitments.

Duties and Responsibilities


Commitment & Adherence to Site Safety Policies & Procedures

+ Maintain review compliance with all relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other site safety policies and procedures on a minimum annual basis or as policies and procedures are revised. + Perform work in compliance with all relevant policies and procedures and ensure that all mining regulations and company safety standards are met or exceeded in all aspects of work performed by self and others. + Conduct Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) for non-routine tasks and ensure that all work performed is supported by a formal assessment of risks and hazards which have been reviewed and signed off by self and others.

Instrumentation Data Collection, Maintenance, & Reporting
+ Conduct regular piezometer, settlement plates, slope inclinometers, tailings and water level readings, and other survey and GPS field work at frequencies specified in the site Operation, Maintenance, and Surveillance (OMS) Manual + Input of data into spreadsheets, validation & assessment of data, and producing data reports for both internal and external stakeholders. Notify the TDE of any abnormal or unusual conditions identified. + Management of the instrumentation database working collaboratively with the GIS Department. + Create and maintain a centralized inventory database for all instrumentation, including key details, maintenance schedules, and ensure regular updates and audits. + Performing repairs on piezometer dataloggers and ensure efficient monitoring of instrumentation on site. + Review EOR’s instrumentation reports and address deficiencies in accordance with their recommendations, in consultation with TDE.

Site Observation & Inspection, & Tailings Management System Activities
+ Conduct visual inspections within Tailings Management Area (TMA) in accordance to the schedule defined by the OMS, TDE, or EOR. Visual inspections are to be conducted at minimum weekly or at an increased frequency for specified areas if deemed required. Notify the TDE of any abnormal or unusual conditions. + Be familiar with requirements of OMS Manual and Tailings Management System (TMS), and support TDE in tracking OMS & TMS activities to ensure the OMS & TMS requirements are met. + Inform the TDE of any issues observed or identified by others concerning the dam monitoring program, including potential dam safety concerns, data inconsistencies, or equipment malfunctions. + Assisting with site investigation & sampling work including drilling and test pitting programs.



Qualifications


Mining, Geotechnical, or Civil Technology Diploma or similar combination of experience & training.
Preferred 1-3+ years of industry experience in mining, industrial, or civil earthworks construction sites.
Entry level applications without prior mining or civil earthworks site experience will be considered.
Strong computer skills, familiarity with MS Office, MS Access, and MS Excel skills.
Familiarity with GTILT Software would be considered an asset.
Familiarity with Survey and GPS equipment and software would be considered an asset.
Experience monitoring geotechnical instrumentation would be desirable.
Possess a valid Canadian Driver's license
