Position Summary
Choptank Electric Cooperative is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented System Operator to join our System Control team. This position is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and coordinating the electric distribution system to ensure safe and reliable power delivery to our members. The role involves operating multiple computer systems, managing outages, and communicating with field crews and the public to support service restoration and system reliability.
Responsibilities
The System Operator monitors and controls the electric distribution system through SCADA and outage management tools, coordinating restoration efforts during outages and emergencies. This position communicates with members, emergency services, and field personnel while maintaining accurate reports and system logs. Operators also assist in monitoring substations, alarms, and other control systems, and may provide support to new or cross-trained staff as needed.
Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Prior experience in public communication or customer service is preferred, along with strong technical and computer skills. Candidates must be able to multitask, remain calm under pressure, and communicate clearly in a fast-paced environment. Enrollment and completion of the Northwest Lineman's College Power Delivery Program within two years of hire is required.
Work Schedule & Environment
This position requires 12-hour rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, within a 24/7 control room environment. The role demands focus, teamwork, and the ability to adapt quickly to changing system conditions.
