The open-pit gold mine is a joint venture between IAMGOLD and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co. Ltd. and is operated by IAMGOLD. We are located near Gogama, Ontario, with access to stable infrastructure and strong connections with our local communities.

SUPERINTENDENT, SAFETY
The Superintendent, Safety is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and controlling the establishment, implementation and coordination of all activities in relation to workplace safety.
Key Responsibilities
Area 1:
Develop and provide leadership to the team.
•Define and recruit for the Safety team in accordance with the organizational design strategy.
•Build and lead a dynamic team focused on safety, planning, data analytics, effective communication, and continuous improvement.
•Create space for your team to be effective in delivering results and foster an inclusive work environment.
•Provide clear work objectives and expectations of the performance levels required to achieve business plans and production targets.
•Ensure current and future training requirements are met and develop clear progression paths for the team.
•Promote a high-performance culture by setting expectations, conducting performance reviews, and providing feedback and coaching.
•Ensure that employees are kept informed of safety, production, and cost performance statistics, to encourage growth and participation in potential improvements to each KPI.
•Builds the capabilities of the team to enhance Safety’s ability to achieve the financial and operating strategy; hires appropriately, leverages the talents of the function and takes corrective action where necessary.
•Ensures there is a comprehensive and effective succession management strategy in place for the function; identifies succession role requirements and high potential talent and actively develops key talent.
•Builds the team through selection and recruitment and conduct performance evaluations.
Area 2:
Workplace Safety Management
•Plan, organize, lead, coordinate and control activities related to workplace safety.
•Promote workplace safety and ensure that the regulations are known and applied by employees.
•Advise and support senior management, managers and employees regarding all aspects of workplace safety. Oversee and assist supervisors in carrying out their responsibilities for health and safety at work.
•Develop performance measures and reporting systems in order to contribute to the continuous improvement of systems, programs and procedures for workplace health and safety. Check and analyze performance on an ongoing basis and prepare relevant reports.
•Participate in the emergency plan and coordinate activities concerning the safety of the site.
•Supervise and direct employees of the Safety department. Build the team through selection and recruitment and conduct performance evaluations.
•Support the risk and hazard assessment and the IAMGOLD risk management program throughout the mine.
•Manage all activities related to the system of quality management. Ensure implementation and compliance of quality management and continuous improvement systems. Support and advise management and managers in implementing and maintaining the H&S management system.
•Manage the delivery of effective safety training programs.
•Ensure that programs are of high quality, that required employees attend the sessions and record keeping is compliant with company standards.
•Ensure trainers receive “Train the Trainer” courses and are familiar with the Act, Regulations and materials relevant to the material in which they are instructing.
•Ensure employees receive the training required for them to safely perform their duties and where appropriate, structure the training to provide them with specialty accreditation related to their role function.
•Conduct supervisory training programs and ensure training provided by Trainers is compliant and meets quality standards.
Area 3:
Support operational excellence and continuous improvement.
•Actively participate in inter-departmental activities to enhance / maximize process performance.
•Plan and implement strategies to maximize workplace health and safety.
•Monitor and review data, such as reports and trends, and other KPI’s.
•Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and others to plan and direct health and safety in order to deliver the Côté Gold business case.
•Develop and analyze new working methods in order to increase efficiency, reduce costs, reduce the risk of accidents, and improve environmental management and quality of work done.
•Encourage and promote continuous improvement at all levels.
•Support the identification, planning and implementation of high value improvement initiatives.
•Provide technical support for the health and safety related projects.
•Assist in the development and achievement of the overall strategy and goals of Côté Gold.
•Participate in the budgeting, and business planning processes.
•Provide advice to the Manager, Sustainability regarding the development and implementation of the budget ensuring that these budgets are respected.
•Seeks solutions to reduce costs.
•Maintain effective communication with all stakeholder.
•Leverage your team to provide the site with expert knowledge on health and safety systems and processes.
Qualifications Minimum Requirements and Nice To Haves
minimum qualifications, formal education, certifications or equivalents
•Post-secondary degree or diploma in a health and safety or mining related field.
•Certification in the following areas; EMT, EMT instructor, MSHA (or equivalent) and HAZMAT operation level is considered an asset
•Formal professional designation in applicable area of expertise is considered an asset.
Work experience - Nature & Length
•A minimum 8 years of related work experience with 5 or more years of leadership experience.
Additional qualifications - Competency requirements
•Excellent working knowledge of health and safety legislation, systems and processes.
•Subject matter expert on the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and other applicable legislation and regulations for Mines and Mining Plants.
•Ability to lead, provide support, maintain accountability, resolve conflict while building positive relationships, and maintaining effective networks in a cross-cultural environment with internal and external stakeholders, industry associations and indigenous communities.
•Motivated self-starter with complex problem-solving ability. Must be collaborative with a solution-focused approach.
•Excellent written and spoken communication skills and team-oriented personality required to interface with construction and operations teams.
