We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled
Substation Plannerto join our team at K&A Engineering in
Greenville, South Carolina.In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting and challenging projects that make a real impact in the energy and utility sectors. Role Expectations:
- Plan and schedule all activities related to transmission line and/or substation construction and maintenance, including outage sequences and temporary facilities.
- Serve as the primary planner on complex projects, taking full ownership of work sequencing and field execution strategies.
- Independently lead and coordinate scheduling calls and planning sessions with stakeholders across Transmission, Distribution, and Generation.
- Interface with Engineering, project management, and field crews to develop detailed and practical construction plans.
- Provide technical support to peers, supervisors, and field personnel in transmission or substation operations.
- Lead and mentor other planners as needed, contributing to a high-performance planning culture.
- Ensure compliance with NERC standards, and support accurate and timely documentation and data entry.
- Planning for substation equipment including transformers, regulators, circuit breakers, switches, instrument transformers, and above/below-grade infrastructure.- 3+ years of hands-on experience in substation/transmission maintenance and/or construction, with a solid understanding of field operations and safety procedures.
- Strong verbal communication skills, including consistent use of 3-way communication and concurrent/independent verification to ensure safety and operational precision.
- Proficient understanding of line and substation engineering principles, along with experience using equipment database systems of record for accurate work planning and documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and interpret equipment specifications and technical data necessary for effective and efficient work planning.
- Thorough knowledge of clearance boundary requirements, with the ability to assess and mitigate risks associated with close margins and contingency scenarios.
- Must be able to become Switching and Tagging Qualified (per Duke Energy standards) to submit Clearance Requests, Outage Requests, and Hot Line Tags.
- Comprehensive understanding of NERC compliance requirements, with a proven ability to ensure accurate data capture and timely completion of compliance-related tasks and documentation.
