We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Substation Engineer to support the design, development, and implementation of substations for utility-scale renewable energy projects, including solar and wind. The ideal candidate will have experience with high-voltage substation design and a passion for driving clean energy solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
•Design and develop substation layouts, one-line diagrams, protection & control schemes, and grounding systems for renewable energy projects.
•Prepare engineering documents including specifications, calculations, and construction drawings.
•Support permitting processes by providing technical inputs for environmental and regulatory filings.
•Collaborate with project developers, transmission/interconnection teams, and construction managers throughout project lifecycle.
•Review and evaluate engineering work from EPC partners and external consultants.
•Conduct field visits to support construction and commissioning activities.
•Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards including IEEE, NEC, NESC, and local jurisdictional requirements.
•Participate in interconnection application processes and utility coordination.
•Provide technical support during RFP evaluations for equipment and services.
Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Power Systems focus preferred).
•3+ years of experience in substation engineering, ideally in the renewable energy or utility industry.
•Proficiency in AutoCAD, ETAP, SKM, or similar electrical engineering design tools.
•Understanding of protection & control, grounding, and SCADA systems.
•Experience working with transmission and interconnection utilities.
•PE license or ability to obtain is a plus.
•Excellent communication and project management skills.
Preferred Skills:
•Familiarity with renewable energy project development and permitting.
•Knowledge of NERC/FERC standards and ISO/RTO processes.
•Experience with energy storage or hybrid systems.
