The Substation Construction Superintendent is responsible for managing all aspects of substation construction projects, including planning, coordination, and supervision of on-site activities. This role ensures compliance with safety regulations, project specifications, and quality standards while leading a team of workers, contractors, and engineers to successfully deliver substation infrastructure for power distribution or transmission systems.
o Plan, schedule, and supervise daily construction activities for substation projects.
o Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and contractors to ensure alignment with project goals.
o Monitor progress to ensure timelines, budgets, and milestones are met.
o Direct and lead construction crews, subcontractors, and equipment operators.
o Assign tasks, provide guidance, and ensure efficient resource allocation.
o Conduct site meetings to communicate objectives, safety protocols, and updates.
o Enforce strict adherence to OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and industry standards.
o Conduct regular safety inspections and address potential hazards promptly.
o Ensure all work complies with electrical codes, environmental regulations, and utility specifications.
o Inspect construction work, including foundations, steel structures, electrical equipment installation (e.g., transformers, circuit breakers), and grounding systems.
o Verify that materials and workmanship meet design and engineering standards.
o Resolve technical issues or discrepancies in collaboration with engineers.
o Oversee the delivery, storage, and use of construction materials and equipment.
o Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely availability of resources.
o Manage heavy machinery and tools required for substation construction.
o Maintain accurate records of daily activities, labor hours, and material usage.
o Prepare progress reports for project stakeholders and upper management.
o Document any changes or deviations from the original plan and ensure proper approvals.
· Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; a degree or certification in construction management, electrical engineering, or a related field is preferred.
· Experience: 5+ years of experience in construction, with at least 2-3 years in a supervisory role specific to utility or substation projects.
o Strong knowledge of substation construction processes, electrical systems, and equipment.
o Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
o Familiarity with project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
· Certifications: OSHA 30 certification, electrical safety training, or journeyman electrician credentials may be required or preferred.
· Physical Requirements: Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, climb structures, and lift up to 50 lbs as needed.
· Primarily field-based, requiring travel to construction sites.
· May involve extended hours, weekends, or overtime to meet project deadlines.
· Exposure to high-voltage equipment, heavy machinery, and construction hazards.
