Director, Strategic Finance, directs the MPC or MPLX Strategic Finance Business Unit and interacts frequently with executive management, including CEO and CFO, manages the relationship with the MPC or MPLX Business Development, Strategy and Operating Business Unit groups in modeling and analytics related to growth initiatives and investments including all capital deployment, including Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A), divestitures, joint ventures, portfolio assessment analytics and capital allocation and reporting.
- Directs the MPC or MPLX Strategic Finance Business Unit and interacts frequently with executive management, including CEO and CFO, manages the relationship withe MPC or MPLX Business Development, Strategy and Operating Business Unit groups in modeling and analytics related to growth initiatives and investments including all capital deployment, including Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A), divestitures, joint ventures, portfolio assessment analytics and capital allocation and reporting.
- Supports organizational leaders in executing the organization’s short and long term financial strategies that align with the overall business and enterprise objectives. Key trusted business partner that identifies associated risks and opportunities to improve operational and financial performance.
- Oversight for the Authorization Request (AR) process which entails systematic evaluation of all investments over $5 MM within the MPC or MPLX segment, responsible for the review and submission for approval to senior management or the Board of Directors for the approval of such projects. Is responsible for post capital project approval for ongoing monitoring and analysis of key project drivers and metrics through the construction and development phases.
- Supports financial and modeling discussions with consultants, advisors and investment banks on specific project engagements.
- Responsible for coordinating and aligning investment activities with Business Development, Strategy, Operating Business Units, MPC Economics, Finance, BP&A, Treasury, Credit, Insurance Tax and Accounting.
- Responsible for development, training and mentoring analysts and elevating the business acumen of MPC, MPLX and Renewable within Strategic Finance. Viewed as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the MPC, MPLX or Renewables Strategic Finance Business Unit and understands key business drivers in potential investments, economic evaluation methods and practices of other companies to determine if such methods or practices could be utilized; researches and keeps abreast of current developments in financial evaluation techniques and financing
- Maintain, enhance and improve the robust analysis of the risk factors for most projects as well as common risks among the portfolio of projects. Incorporates methods including, but not limited to, scenario analysis (various long term economic outlooks and assumptions), sensitivity analysis with low, medium and high cases and Monte Carlo analysis.
- Develops and maintains a high performing team. Sets goals and direction for the team to align with MPC strategic pillars and objectives and monitors performance to accomplish organizational goals. Creates a formal development program to increase the team’s business acumen and analytical skills. Allocates time to coaching and developing team members.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, or Accounting required
- Master’s degree (MBA) and/or Advanced degree preferred
- 12+ years of work experience in finance, economics, or accounting required- Experience with financial modeling and/or analytical analysis preferred
