Job Summary
The role involves comprehensive responsibilities related to the construction, maintenance, rebuilding, removal, operation, testing, and inspection of both energized and de-energized generation, transmission, and distribution facilities. The employee will assist in responding to emergency call-outs for station issues and will coordinate the prompt restoration of service to customers as needed.
The following outlines the primary duties associated with this position, along with the typical levels of supervision provided. This list is not exhaustive and does not restrict the assignment of work or the degree of supervision under varying operational conditions. Employees may also undertake miscellaneous, related, and incidental tasks beyond those specifically mentioned.
Supervision Levels:
Direct Supervision: A qualified individual is actively involved and hands-on with the employee performing the task.
Immediate Supervision: A qualified person is in close proximity to the structure or equipment, maintaining constant visual and/or verbal contact with the employee.
General Supervision: An employee of equal or higher classification, knowledgeable about the task, may not be present at the job site but oversees the work.
Qualified Person: This refers to a Station Electrician or Supervisor who is familiar with the task to be performed and is capable of executing appropriate emergency rescue procedures.

What You'll Do:
Energized Equipment Operations:
•Work on energized equipment up to 260 volts. After six months in the role, assist with tasks involving conductors and equipment energized above 750 volts under direct supervision or with support from higher classification personnel.
•Select appropriate prints and/or drawings for various tasks and demonstrate a basic understanding of each.
•Utilize voltmeters, ohmmeters, ammeters, insulation meggers, and other test equipment relevant to station operations.
Maintenance and Repair:
•Assist in disassembling, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing station transformers, circuit breakers, portable substations, rotating machinery, network protectors, air ducts, and heat exchangers.
•Install and maintain station batteries and replace nitrogen bottles and air filters.
Station Work Assistance:
•Aid in installing conduit, pipe, cable, and wire; use hand lines to pass tools and materials; dig and backfill trenches; remove and spread stone; uncrate equipment and materials; install and remove portable substation fences, barriers, and safety signs; paint structures and equipment; and climb station structures.
•Utilize various tapes, insulating materials, and protective paints, ensuring proper application.
Visual Inspections and Testing:
•Assist with visual inspections, including checking lights, heaters, circuit breaker counters, oil levels, and bus connections; read gauges such as voltmeters and pressure gauges; and perform start-run-stop tests on emergency generators, pumps, and fire engine motors. Report any abnormal conditions.
•Replace lamps, switches, and outlets; install and maintain signal and communication systems. Assist with tests involving oil samples and electrical testing equipment such as TTR, Doble, and core megger.
Station Switching and Communication:
•Assist in station switching, utilizing radio communication and/or following direct instructions from higher classification personnel. Check equipment clearances and conduct de-energized tests, placing grounds as directed.
Rescue Proficiency:
•Demonstrate knowledge and proficiency in steel and aerial lift rescue techniques.
Record Keeping:
•Maintain records and prepare reports as required.
Training Participation:
•Attend and engage in training sessions and assist in training other employees as assigned.
Vehicle and Equipment Operation:
•Operate various company vehicles, specialized equipment, hand tools, and power tools. Perform tasks incidental to the operation of such equipment, including portable generators, blowers, and pumps. Inspect and store personal protective equipment.
•Demonstrate knowledge of various knots used in station work.
Additional Assignments:
•Perform similar or less skilled work as assigned.
Team Collaboration:
•Assist and support employees of equal or higher classification; direct the work of assigned personnel.
Safety Compliance:
•Become familiar with the company's safety rules and practices, including resuscitation and First Aid as outlined in the company's Safety Manual. Perform duties in accordance with safety regulations and operating practices.
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
•Associate degree in electrical, mechanical, or industrial maintenance technology, or equivalent education and/or experience.
•Equivalent education and experience may include military training and technical work experience (e.g., aviation and nuclear instrumentation technician) or recent experience (within the last 6 months) as a Station Electrician or a comparable position with another utility or contractor.
Work Experience:
•No prior work experience is required.
Other Requirements:
•Must be available for overtime, call-out overtime, and shift work as needed.
•Travel expectations exceed 50% of the time.
Physical Demand Requirements:
•Ability to climb and work at heights of 50 feet or higher.
•Proficient in print reading to interpret and apply information from drawings, instruction manuals, one-line diagrams, and related documents.
•Must satisfactorily complete all required training within designated time frames to advance to the next higher classification or vacate the current classification.
•Must demonstrate the ability and willingness to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for the Station Electrician A position and be qualified through demonstration, examination, and/or performance appraisal as determined by the company.
•Capable of interacting with customers and colleagues in a courteous and professional manner.
•Ability to plan work effectively and instruct or brief others as necessary.
•Must obtain a valid commercial driver's license before the end of the designated probationary period.
•Must meet all vehicle operation requirements as designated by federal and/or state law.
•Considerable travel and overtime may be required to complete assignments.
•Must successfully complete the Physical Abilities Test (PAT).

•Weight Lifting Requirements:
•Amount of weight lifted from floor/ground to waist level: 75 lbs
•Amount of weight carried for 20 feet: 60 lbs
•Amount of weight lifted to chest level: 50 lbs
•Amount of weight lifted to eye level: 30 lbs
•Distance walked over the course of an 8-hour shift: ½ mile
•Distance to climb and work on a ladder/structure: 50 feet and higher
•Distance to ascend and work in a bucket/lift: 100 feet and higher (tested at 60 feet)
•Ability to discriminate between colors: Yes (tested)

Compensation Range:
$33.61-34.73 USD
The Physical Demand Level for this job is: H – Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10-20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
