Job Summary
Murphy Oil is seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Staff Offshore Production Engineer to join our high-performing team supporting our deepwater Gulf of Mexico assets. This role works closely with our operations, subsurface, and wells teams to monitor and optimize production from a diverse well stock, applying advanced engineering tools and driving operational excellence in a technically challenging offshore environment.
You’ll work in our Houston Corporate office and may work up to two (2) days a week remotely.
Responsibilities
Maintain strong oversight of production trends and proactively identify potential issues related to well performance, flow assurance, or equipment degradation
Provide clear operating limits and guidance to the offshore team, including specific instructions for facility outages, unplanned events, new well startups, and other non-routine scenarios
Monitor and maintain the accuracy of metering systems and manage production allocation processes
Troubleshoot complex and multidisciplinary well challenges, coordinating across multiple teams to drive timely, effective solutions
Develop and implement strategies for asphaltene management and other flow assurance challenges
Generate well-level short- and long-term production forecasts, accounting for facility or downstream constraints
Support the planning and execution of well interventions, including problem diagnosis, job design, and post-job evaluation
Work closely with subsurface and completions teams to support field development planning and optimize completion design
Support regulatory reporting, data integrity, and compliance with safety and environmental standards
Participate in technical reviews and present recommendations to leadership and partners
Drive continuous improvement in production workflows and contribute to the adoption of digital tools and automated surveillance systems
Interact with partners in technical discussions, optimizations and short/long term projects
Licenses/ Certifications
Willing to attend and be able to pass HUET (Helicopter Underwater Egress Training)
Qualifications/Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline
Minimum of 16years of production engineering experience, with majority experience in deepwater operations
Proficient in well and system modeling using Prosper and GAP, with a solid understanding of nodal analysis principles
Practical experience managing sand production, asphaltene deposition, and associated mitigation strategies
Familiarity with metering infrastructure and production allocation processes, including data reconciliation and reporting
Hands-on experience participating in the planning and executing of well interventions, including diagnostic and production enhancement operations
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose performance issues and recommend actionable solutions
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced operational environment while maintaining a focus on safety and performance
Periodic travel offshore and to vendor locations
Th e individual is required to follow all applicable safety precautions. Work is performed almost entirely in a controlled (i.e., inside) environment and does not typically subject the incumbent to any hazardous/extreme elements; some positions may require regularly moving or transporting items weighing up to 25 lbs. around the office for various needs. The successful candidate must be able to complete all essential physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
